Anusha, a teacher, conducted an exam for five
students, Pavan, Kiran, Gaurav, Sravan and
Ram. Each student received a different mark in
the exam and Anusha ranked the five students
from 1 to 5 based on their marks in the exam
such that a numerically lower rank is considered
better than a numerically higher rank. However,
before revealing their ranks to the five
students, she asked each of them to guess the
ranks of all the five students.
The following information is known about the
ranks guessed by the five students:
i.Except for Pavan, none of the students guessed
that the rank of Gaurav would be better than that
of
Ram.
ii.None of the students correctly guessed the
actual rank of any student and no student
guessed their rank to be worse
than third.
iii.Except for Kiran, none of the students guessed
their own rank to be one, while no student
guessed that the rank of Pavan will be better than
third.
iv.Except for Ram and Gaurav, none of the others
guessed that Sravan would be ranked third, and
Ram guessed Pavan’srank to be four.
v.Except for Kiran, the rank of each student was
guessed to be five by at least one student, while
Sravan guessed the rank of Ram to be less than
four.
vi.Kiran guessed that Pavan would be ranked
better than Gaurav, while Pavan guessed Gaurav
would be ranked first.
vii.Sravan guessed the rank of the student whose
actual rank was five to be one, and the rank of the
student whose actual rank was three to be five.
According to point 3 , kiran ranked himself 1 and
pawan rank ranges from 3-5 ( that is rank 1 and
rank 2 are discarded for him )
Gaurav and ram only ranked Sravan – 3 and point
3 says none of the students ranked themself 1 so
sravan ranked himself -2
Pawan ranked gaurav as 1
again Pawan cannot rank himself 1 nor 2 , why

not 2 because his range varies from 3-5 so pawan
....shows Kiran cannot be ranked 5 by ram so
ranked himself – 3
gaurav is ranked 5 by ram and kiran is ranked
1.Sravan has to be ranked 5 by anyone , only

rank ram 2 bcz pawan and gaurav cannot be
ranked 2.
point 6 , kiran ranked pawan to be better thn
gaurav so pawan =3 and gaurav =4.
point 2, None of the students correctly guessed
the actual rank of any student so KIRAN ACTUAL
RANK =5 and point 7 says sravan ranked him 1.
point 5 sravan ranked ram to be less thn 4 , 1 and
2 are not possible sravan ranked ram =3.
ACTUAL RANK OF GAURAV =3 by point 7
according to point 1 ram rank will always be better ACTUAL RANK OF 1 CAN BE OF SRAVAN OR
than gaurav ( except for Pawan) means ram PAWAN , ACTUAL RANK OF 2 ONLY
cannot be ranked 5 by anyone except pawan and POSSIBLE FOR PAWAN SO PAWAN 2 AND
atleast one 5 is needed so pawan ranked ram – 5 SRAVAN 1 , RAM 4
gaurav ranked sravan 3 and he cannot rank
himself 1 so he ranked himself 2 , same with ram.
gaurav ranked himself 2 and ram is better thn him
so gaurav ranked ram as 1.Kiran cannot be 5 so
gaurav has to rank him 4 and pawan as 5.
ram gussed pawan ranked to be 4 according to 4
as given.
