1. Introduction
have achieved the standard of IWCF certification for the programme they are applying
to assess (Section 2.2); AND FOR NEW ASSESSORS
an IWCF Assessor Training Course (Section 3). Please contact IWCF for
further information.
OR
undergo in-house training conducted by an accredited assessor (Section 4).
Following successful review of the Practical Assessor Application Form (In-House Training
Programme), the applicant assessor will be granted provisional accreditation.
The applicant assessor must attend and sucessfully complete the IWCF Assessor Training
Course within 6 months of their provisional accreditation being granted, otherwise they will
be cancelled.
2. Pre-qualification requirements
Applicants must:
Provide evidence that they have the relevant technical knowledge which they have
achieved by employment, education and/or training (Practical Assessor Application
Form, Section 2.1). The applicant must have one of the following:
2.1.1. Field experience in industry in a supervisory role for at least two years which
required a current Level 3 or Level 4 Well Control Certificate in the discipline
for which accreditation is sought, for example: Driller, Toolpusher, Wellsite
Engineer.
OR
2.1.2. A Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant subject, (for example, Petroleum
Engineering), and field experience of at least one year in a role which
required a current Level 3 or Level 4 Well Control Certificate.
OR
2.1.3. A relevant vocational qualification, (for example, the Norwegian system of
vocational training and education), and have field experience of at least one
year in a role which required a current Level 3 or Level 4 Well Control
Certificate.
The applicant has achieved between 85% and 89% in the other
written paper.
There are instances where the practical assessment re-sit will be attempted
before the written papers. If 90% or above has been achieved in the practical
assessment re-sit the applicant must pass at least one written paper at 90%
or above for the practical assessment re-sit mark to be valid.
Please refer to Appendix 1 & 2 for further clarification on the Drilling Well
Control Programme re-sit criteria.
The assessment centre manager must complete sections 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 and sign section
2.3 of the application form before submitting the entire, original application form to IWCF.
The applicant will then be offered a place on the next available training course.
The applicant assessor must attend and pass an IWCF Training Course covering:
IWCF practical assessment procedures, documentation and methodology as per the
IWCF Practical Assessment Procedure in the Practical Assessor Handbook.
(Practical Assessor Application Form, Section 3.1 and Section 3.4.1). These
sections should be signed by the IWCF course facilitator during the course.
4.4.1. Applicants for Surface BOP Assessor accreditation must conduct four
Surface BOP Practical Assessments on IWCF Candidates. These
assessments must be supervised by a monitoring assessor who is
accredited by IWCF.
4.4.2. Applicants for Combined Surface and Subsea BOP Assessor accreditation
must conduct four Practical Assessments of which a minimum of two must
be Subsea BOP Practical Assessments on IWCF Candidates. These
assessments must be supervised by a monitoring assessor who is
accredited by IWCF.
4.4.3. Each of the four exercises must cover a different one of the four problems
set in the IWCF Practical Assessment programme. (Practical Assessor
Application Form, Section 3.5.4).
4.4.4. The exercises must be conducted at Level 4.
4.4.5. The applicant assessor must sign off each Practical Assessment Grading
Sheet (Surface BOP Operations or Subsea BOP Operations).
4.4.6. The applicant assessor, Level 4 candidate and Level 3 candidate must sign
off each simulator session plot.
4.4.7. The monitoring assessor must countersign each Practical Assessment
Grading Sheet (Surface BOP Operations Subsea BOP Operations), and
each simulator session plot relating to the exercises.
4.4.8. The monitoring assessor must also sign Section 3.5.4 of the Practical
Assessor Application Form (In-House Training Programme).
Training checklists (Practical Assessor Application Form, Sections 3.5.1 to 3.5.4)
These should be completed, signed by both the applicant assessor and the
monitoring assessor and returned to the IWCF as part of the application.
The assessor must hold the appropriate IWCF certification at all times in order to maintain
accreditation.
- Evidence of this must be an IWCF certificate for a course level and BOP stack equal
to, or greater than the one currently held.
- It must be obtained following a full course of instructor- led training.
- It must meet the requirements set out in Section 2.3 of the Pracitcal Assessor
Application Form Renewal.
If the assessor does not maintain accreditation, they will be cancelled and any course
taught during the period without accreditation may be voided. Candidates’ certificates will
remain valid for 90 days to allow time for re–testing to take place. Any financial
considerations to candidates or clients due to this will be the responsibility of the
Assessment Centre.
6. Renewal of current IWCF practical assessor accreditation
To renew accreditation as an assessor for the same level, the applicant must continue to
meet the standards for the programme they are applying to assess and submit evidence of
their ability to conduct practical assessments to the required standard (section 5).
To reapply for accreditation applicants should complete the Practical Assessor Form
Renewal and submit this together with any specified additional documentation to IWCF
within 90 days of expiry of the current accreditation.
It is the responsibility of the Assessment Centre to ensure that IWCF receive the completed
renewal application within the appropriate timescale.
Applicants may apply for accreditation as an assessor at more than one accredited centre.
This must be for the same type and level as their current accreditation. They must continue
to meet the requirements of their current accreditation and ensure they have carried out a
training programme using the simulator model at the additional accredited centre if this is
different from the simulator used to obtain their original accreditation as an assessor.
Applicants should complete Practical Assessor Application Form Additional Primary Centre
and submit this together with any specified additional documentation to IWCF before
conducting any assessments at this new centre.
Applicants who wish to apply for a different assessor type to their current accreditation must
apply as a new assessor, meeting the requirements in section 2 and completing the training
requirements in sections 3 and 4.
Applicants must sign the declaration in the Practical Assessor Application Form before
submitting the application to IWCF.
The Assessment Centre Manager must approve the Practical Assessor Application Form
before submitting it to IWCF. The Assessment Centre Manager is responsible for checking
that all the information in the application is accurate. The Assessment Centre Manager is
held responsible for ensuring the assessor conducts IWCF practical assessments in
compliance with the centres accreditation and the IWCF practical assessment procedure as
detailed in the Practical Assessor Handbook.
10. Auditing
The assessor’s performance and record will be audited during the routine, regular audits of
the Assessment Centre.
In addition the assessor may be audited at any time at the discretion of IWCF.
The materials submitted to IWCF by the assessor on completion of each candidate
assessment will be subject to audit by IWCF.
If non-conformances are found during an audit, the IWCF assessor will be asked to take
corrective action which may include re-training, suspension or termination of their
accreditation. Corrective action requests may also be issued to the Accredited Centre at
which they are registered.
New Assessors
When the qualification training programmes have been completed, the original Practical
Assessor Application Form must be completed, signed and sent to IWCF together with the
following documents:
A Curriculum Vitae.
A copy of the passport page containing the photograph and one original, passport
style photograph.
Copies of the four Practical Assessment grading sheets (Subsea BOP
Operations/Surface BOP Operations).
Signed, colour copies of the four Practical Assessment simulator session plots.
The original Practical Assessor Application Form Additional Primary Centre must be
completed, signed and sent to the IWCF together with the following documents:
A Curriculum Vitae.
A copy of the passport page containing the photograph and one original, passport
style photograph.

NOTES:
1. Applicants who are eligible to re-sit are allowed a maximum of two attempts to re-sit the failed paper(s).
These re-sit attempts must be completed within a period not exceeding 90 days from the initial test
date.
4. If an applicant fails to achieve the required results after three attempts they must wait a period of 90
days from the initial test date before re-registering as a new candidate.
