1. A car is moving with the velocity of 10 m/s and is having mass of 250 Kg. Calculate its Kinetic energy?
Solution:
3. A tennis ball is traveling at 50 m/s and has a kinetic energy of 75 J. Calculate the mass of the tennis
ball.
5. A cheetah can run briefly with a speed of 31.0 m/s. Suppose a cheetah with a mass of 47.0 kg runs at
this speed. What is the cheetah’s kinetic energy?
POTENTIAL ENERGY
1. An object of mass 30 kgs is placed on a hill top of height 80m. What is the potential energy
possessed by the object?
PE = m x g x h
= 30 x 9.8 x 80
= 23520 J
2. A fruit hangs from a tree and is about to fall to the ground of 10 meters height. It has a potential
energy of 22.5 J. Calculate the mass of the fruit
M = PE / (g x h)
= 0.229 kg
3. 5 kg weighing cat climbing at the top of the tree has a potential energy of 1176 kg. Find the height of
the tree?
H = PE / (m x g)
= 1176 / (9.8 x 5)
= 24 cm
4. A 0.30 kg model airplane is hanging from the ceiling in a child's room. The airplane is hanging 2.50
m above the floor. If the floor is the position with U = 0, what is the potential energy of the model
airplane?
Answer: The model airplane's mass is m = 0.30 kg, and it is at a position h = 2.50 m above the floor. The potential
energy can be found using the formula:
U = mgh
U = 7.35 kg m2/s2
U = 7.35 J
5. A basketball, with a mass of 2.2 kg, falls off a window ledge, to the ground 50 m below. What is the
gravitational potential energy of the ball when it arrives below?
Answer: The mass, m = 2.2 kg; the height, h = 50 m; the force of gravity, g =9.8 m/s2.
PE = mgh
E = 1078 kg m2 / s2 = 1078 J
