Voice over: For millions of years, the human mind is always fascinated by the thought of what’s beyond the
earth’s atmosphere. From the biggest of stars, galaxies, supernova, asteroids, moon and to the smallest of
planets. As the years pass by, scientists and astronomers never fail to add to their learnings to the knowledge of
our race.

Voice over: Among the phenomenon that happen outside our planet, one specific moon has caught our attention.
And now, we’re bound to ask people around if they are familiar with Enceladus, the ocean moon.

Kiezyl: What truly is the Enceladus? A planet, an asteroid, a comet or a moon? For almost 13 years, the Cassini
spacecraft hovered around the planet Saturn and discovered that one of the present rings of the planet is
caused by one of its moons, the Enceladus.

Lynnil: Before moving on to the main topic, did you know that Saturn will have 62 moons in total if the 9 of which
that are still waiting are to be confirmed. For now, it only has 53 named moons and one of them is Enceladus.

Ella: Enceladus, a nine-letter word with so much mystery behind and one of solar system’s most interesting
destinations. According to NASA, it is small, has an icy body with 502.4 km in diameter. Tall geysers from cracks
are made of water-ice mixed with carbon dioxide, ammonia, methane and other hydrocarbons are ejected miles
into space from the south pole. These cracks are called tiger stripes.

Voice over: Eventually, scientists learned that there is a hidden liquid ocean in the little moon. They are careful
enough to note that Enceladus’ core is more of a gravel and sand.

Lynnil: Buried under miles and miles of ice lies a warm ocean that stretches across the whole body. One
interesting finding is that the internal tide produces enough heat to warm Enceladus’ ocean for billion of years to
come.

Kiezyl: Can life be possible on the little moon? Sustaining life has 2 key ingredients: heat and energy. And these
elements are present in Enceladus. With its global ocean, unique chemistry and internal heat was made
possible making Enceladus promising in our search for worlds with terrestrial life. Also, its chemistry might be
similar to what’s here on earth.

Voice over: Enceladus itself is only a million years old. By most estimates, life here on earth took about 640
million years to appear, if we take this as a reference, Enceladus still has a long way to go.
All: For now, after Cassini’s expiration, they are planning to send another space probe to continue the study of
the icy ocean world.
