[07/01 19:32] Lpdp Eny: I am sure all of you have read the article, but let me remind you

that 4IR
is an agenda, and Kurtilas is a curriculum. Education system follows the agenda and use
curriculum as the mean to achieve the agenda.

Let me remind you about the 4IR:

- In 2000, the Internet took a lead in the fourth industrial revolution, the Connected Computer.
Connectivity between systems has made remote working and collaboration a possibility, allowing
businesses to become global enterprises, and retail to explode internationally with the help of
production, shipping and finance online industries. But the structure of our education system has
still been left unchallenged. Learning outcomes are still being tested by the criteria set out in the
second industrial revolution. We are still treating educators and students like they are part of a
production line. In order for this to change, we must revisit the educational paradigms, and focus
on the areas that need rethinking. Students need to be trained and not taught. We now understand
that students are not alike, do not have the same starting point, can learn and absorb different areas
of focus differently and need to be guided to develop their skills rather than taught a set of
predefined data points. The fourth industrial revolution will take what was started in the third with
the adoption of computers and automation and enhance it with smart and autonomous systems
fueled by data and machine learning.
[07/01 19:36] Lpdp Eny: The very first question from this group is from Ms. irma. She sent me an
email.

Im a junior high school teacher from purbalingga.

Your article is incredible it gives me some new idea about ir 4.o dealing with education.
I have some questions for you?
1. From your articke reading 1 it ie mentioned that reading and writing will not be top ten skill but
learninh how to learn.
How can the students learn how to learn when they dont habe skill at reading and writing?
My students have a lck of interest in reading a book. Can you give me suggestion on how to create
an interesting activity in reading class?
2. What should i do as a teacher to change my self paradigm dealing with ir 4.0?
3. From your online article on nine trend on ir 4.0 especially on poin 2,3,4,5 can you give an
example in a real class room activity(smp) ?

Reply: Hi Ms. Irma.

I am not sure I understand your first question. Generally, all the skills are important.
[07/01 19:37] +62 813-3523-9444: I wonder how the Ed 4.0 views 'Standards' since it emphasizes
on personalised and autonomous learning which means every students is free to determine how to
learn.
I also wonder how Ed 4.0 deals with standard assesment.
[07/01 19:37] Lpdp Eny: The important question for unpacking the curriculum for the agenda of
IR4 is what do you want your students to be in the future? what knowledge should be taught first?
What is your teaching belief?
[07/01 19:37] +62 812-5908-2119: I agree with You Miss. That students Need to be trained not to
be taught.
[07/01 19:49] Lpdp Eny: Thank you madam moderator. well I am going to answer some
questions that reflect to the reading materials first.

Ijunnias: What comes to my mind after reading the articles:

The term of education 4.0 seems to be similar with what we call kurtilas here in Indonesia. Our
focus is to maximize students's skill in exploring their creativity and critical thinking.
After reading the articles, I realized big challenges are coming to us as an English teachers. The
demand of students is not merely to comnunicate with this langauge, but also to infer, conclude,
and using the language to produce.
These are what I do believe.
-Early childhood language learning can be triggred by media and habits of using the language in
their surrounding, nevertheless, the media and habits are probably not possible for those who lives
out of English environment family. So for them, I still think drilling can be part of the learning.
-Building security in using English is really a challenge. Sometimes, we (teachers) are busy
motivating them to use the language, and have a very little time to make them exploring
intepreting, concluding, critical thinking skills.

What I hope I can find out:

The way to keep the students secure in speaking, and able to apply their language in the real world
needs.

Reply: Hi. Junias? did I mention your name correctly? As I said, kurtilas and 4IR is not the in the
same room. 4 IR is an agenda, and Kurtilas is a curriculum. for Early childhood, I am not sure
what you mean by 'drilling'. ECE is all about FUN . getting the young learners to have fun with
learning.

your question to keep the student secure in speaking is interesting since tha is what I am talking
about in my latest reading.
[07/01 19:50] Lpdp Eny: 4. Miftahul Huda: After Reading the material I have question related to
My Experience I got Everyday.
What is the best Method used to Teach speaking effectively by using IR 4.0 especially for Student
Who Never Speak English?
I have already used edmodo in my class but still far away with your opinion on making
autonomous learning. But so far my students like edmodo.

Hi Mr. Huda, what do you mean by effectively? what specific problem do you find in your
students with edmodo?
[07/01 19:52] Lpdp Eny: THIS IS EXACTLY what I am talking about the agenda of 4IR. the next
question is, how do you incorporate technology in your teaching goals?
[07/01 19:54] Lpdp Eny: This is typical problem but sure it is very important. Do you use some
real cases when you teach all the skills?
[07/01 19:55] Lpdp Eny: let say, teaching and learning comes together like a romantic couple. One
comes with the other. The question is whose belief should change fisrt? the student or the
teachers?
[07/01 19:59] Lpdp Eny: You got interesting point. the 4IR is supposed to believe that students are
unique, learning is unique. standardized test is the idea that our government worry about education
equity. It goes the same with national curriculum. centralized and decentralized curriculum
[07/01 20:00] Lpdp Eny: That's a great point to discuss. ICTs in ELT.
[07/01 20:02] Lpdp Eny: would you care to explain specific problem or cases related to your
students? HOTS, MOTS, and LOTS are types or skills.
[07/01 20:06] Lpdp Eny: I would say, getting your students' confidence in speaking on board. how
much do your students get exposed with real life materials?
[07/01 20:07] Lpdp Eny: Pak Mursyid, it's an honor Sir. but let's get back to the problem. what
kind of technology have you used so far in your teaching?
[07/01 20:09] Lpdp Eny: the idea of 4IR is mostly constructivism but using the principle of
drilling from behaviorism is also needed in getting students used to the technology and real life
cases in English
[07/01 20:11] Lpdp Eny: They are the skills you can use with traditional teaching style and
incorporating technology. the idea of 4IR is incorporating technology that enhance ELF teaching.
the latest reading that I send contains many options fo technology you can use. quetsion is ,
how would you use them?
[07/01 20:13] Lpdp Eny: How about we focus on "real life cases " and use ICTs in our ELT bapak
ibu? I would wan to hear specific problem you encounter with that
[07/01 20:17] Lpdp Eny: agree. however, we have been fighting with this idea and what do we
get? confusion. so instead, let's focus on the idea of assessment.

What students do need is to learn how to use the knowledge, and that is what assessment should
be about. We need to let students have the freedom and the time to be creative, and then we must
allow them to demonstrate what they can do with the knowledge which they have constructed
through inquiry, experience, trial and error.
[07/01 20:20] +62 878-5240-0566: I think IR 4 can still engage UN in terms of exposure to
English. Say, foe example, in materials about short conversation both in reading and writing,
exposure is highly needed instead of memorizing
[07/01 20:21] Lpdp Eny: this is inevitably true. this is what our education system is not ready
about. regardless, our job is to make our students having as much as 21 century skills. and yes, for
schools with limited support, it seems we need to really cooperate the entire school member to use
the funding properly.
[07/01 20:23] Lpdp Eny: interesting case you shared here Sir.

I am going to know more about the way you deliver the objective of the project and how it can
relate to students' personal life and privacy.
[07/01 20:26] Lpdp Eny: couldn't agree more, Sir. you are talking about observational learning. I
am afraid you also need to expose them with experiential learning.
[07/01 20:29] Lpdp Eny: This is very progressive learning. I am so excited. How do you make
sure your students can access your ideas? how would you evaluate them?
[07/01 20:31] Lpdp Eny: YOU DID? I am amazed. How does your school support the idea of
ICTs?
[07/01 20:34] Lpdp Eny: idea of ICTs is not merely how to engage students's learning with
technology but also how teachers can benefit from technology related to evaluating and assessing
studnets. This is also what we need to balance. again, what kind assessment or evaluation would
make you and your students more comfortable?
[07/01 20:35] Lpdp Eny: that's why I would propose the idea of PLC or MGMP to be more than
gathering. we can create PLC in our school, and navigate the team to design lesson together
[07/01 20:36] Lpdp Eny: we also need to get school leader on board.
[07/01 20:37] +62 812-3172-278: As long as the teachers are willing to learn, sacrifice,
understand, develop themselves and be creative more than ever
[07/01 20:40] Lpdp Eny: So I have this experience supervision 4th grade at one of progressive
schools in Pennsylvania. The teacher, who is my close fiend, she set up a schedule time for the
students to access gadget or any tehcnology in the classroom because she wants students can have
more real life interaction
[07/01 20:46] Lpdp Eny: exposing your learners to technology is important as long as we can help
them to balance. setting up schedule for using internet, laptops, gadget, and letting parents know
the objectives would be my suggestion in this matter, according to my experience supervising
some schools in Pennsylvania
[07/01 20:48] +62 812-3172-278: The key to our teaching, whatever the curriculum you use, are
how to create, supervise, judge your students, materials, methods, and yourself, into challenging,
fun and inspiring lesson
[07/01 20:48] Lpdp Eny: getting schools on board with your idea of using such technology and let
them know how they can cooperate and support. Also, getting your fellow teachers to engage in
PLC
[07/01 20:53] Lpdp Eny: Based on my experience with schooling in Indonesia and in the U.S. We
need to go through some steps before we expose students with particular access of technology.

1. ask yourself why you need it and how the technology benefit your students. explain the pros
and cons

2. get the parents and school board with you

3. set up a PLC with your fellow teachers

[07/01 20:56] Lpdp Eny: The 4IR is way more complex than we thought, bapak ibu, and we still
have Kurtilas with all its pros and cons. we work collaboratively to unpack these matters. more
teacher communities - PLC, more teacher trainings and more support from schools, parents, and
the district government.
