Unit 9: Quizzes.

Lesson 1/2: The Quiz Show/ What did you choose?

Lesson aims/objectives:

1. To practice pronunciation;
2. To practice writing;
3. To develop students’ listening competences;
4. To read a short simple text aloud;
5. To complete the sentences with the correct word;
6. To extract a main ideea from a text;
7. To mention names of books;
8. To match the names of TV programme with the words.

Materials/ aids: textbook; blackboard, images, quiz

Skills involved: speaking, writing, reading

Class management: whole class activity, group activity


Activity 1 : Warm-up activity.
Aims:

 to make an introduction (hello, talk about the weather, date on the blackboard)
 to check homework
Procedure:

 What day is today?


 What’s the date today?
 How’s the weather like?
 What was your homework for today?
Timing: 5 minutes

Activity 2 : Look at the Tv programme and say which is about.


Aims:

 to practice pronunciation;
 to match the names of TV programme with the words.

Procedure:

 Pupils read carefully the words and match them with the suitable TV programme;
 Pupils read the sentences aloud.

Timing: 5 minutes

Activity 3: Look at the words in the box and choose the right ones to complete the text.
Aims:

 To practice writing;
 To complete the sentences with the correct word;

Procedure:

 Pupils read correctly the given sentences;


 Pupils will have to complete the short text with the right words from the box.
Timing: 5 minutes
Activity 4 : What other titles can you think of?
Aims:

 to mention names of books;


 to practice vocabulary and pronunciation.
Procedure:

 Pupils read the names of books given;


 Pupils try to offer other examples of books on any subject.
Timing: 5 minutes

Activity 5: Read the text quickly. What is the prize mentioned in the text?
.Aims:

 To extract a main ideea from a text;


 To read a short simple text aloud.

Procedure:

 Pupils are asked to read carefully the text and to answer the question concerning the
text.

Timing: 5 minutes

Activity 6: Tick the words you recognise in the sentences you hear.

Aims:

 to practice pronounciation;
 to develop students’ listening competeces.

Procedure:

 Pupils are required to listen a short simple text;


 Pupils are asked to tick the words they recognise in the sentences they hear.

Timing: 5 minutes
Activity 7: Listen and repeat.

Aims:

 To practice pronunciation;
 To read a short simple text aloud.

Procedure:

 The teacher read the short text;


 Pupils will have to listen carefully and read once again correctly the text.

Timing: 5 minutes

Activity 8: Fill in the sentences.

Aims:

 to read a short simple text aloud;


 to complete the sentences with the correct word.

Procedure:

 Pupils read the short text;


 Pupils are asked to fill in the sentences with the correct words from the list.

Timing: 5 minutes

Activity 9: Quizzes

 Pupils are divided into 3 groups. They’ll have to answer the questions of the quiz.

Final activity:
