ABSTRACT

HASRUDIN M. MASUKAT: “MATHEMATICAL ATTITUDES AND

PERFORMANCE OF MUSLIM STUDENTS AT QUEZON COLLEGES
OF SOUTHERN PHILIPPINES INC.” Thesis Writing. Quezon Colleges of
Southern Philippines Inc. November 2017.

Adviser: MAGDALENA R. AFON, Ph.D

This study on “Mathematical Attitudes and Performance of Muslim Student in

Quezon Colleges of Southern Philippines, Inc. aimed to evaluate the effect of

Mathematical Attitudes on the Academic performance of respondents. This study

was limited to thirty eight (38) respondents identified through purposive sampling

technique.

Descriptive-Correlation Method of research using modified questionnaire was

used to gather data from the respondents of the study, Percentages, frequency count,

weighted mean and correlation were used in treating data.

Findings revealed that majority of the respondents were female teachers aging

10-15 years old.. The academic performance of the students in Mathematics were

rated “Average” with over all mean of 88.06.

On the Mathematical Attitudes and Performance of Muslim Students the

three (3) components such as:Emotional response toward Matematics, Belief

regarding Mathematics and Behavior related to Mathematics were assessed as to the

“greater extent”.

iv
There was a relationship between the Mathematical Attitudesand students’

academic performance but not significant.

On these accounts, it is concluded that the majority of the respondents were

female aging 10- 15 years old. The students’ academic performance achieved

“Average” in Mathematics subject. Mathematical Attitudes and Performance of

Muslim Studentwas rated “greater extent”. There was a relationship exist between

students’ academic performance and Mathematical Attitudesbut not significant.

In the light of these findings, it is recommended that, the school administrator

should closely monitor the effective delivery of instruction to ensure students’

learning; and that a deeper and wider study be conducted by including other schools,

as well as, other components not included in this study.
