Reading

task
Description
In
this
lesson,
Students
will
practice
reading
and
vocabulary
on
a
text
about
“Some
people
are
life’s
winners.”
At
the
start
of
the
lesson,
Students
will
be
asked
some
quick-‐fire
questions.
Then,
they
will
be
given
gist
and
specific
tasks
along
with
few
controlled
practices.
After
the
main
aim
is
completed,
the
students
will
be
familiarized
with
various
phrases
for
time
with
a
controlled
practice
for
reinforcement.
Main
Aims
• To
provide
gist,
scan
and
detailed
practice
using
a
text.
Subsidiary
Aims
• To
introduce
and
clarify
related
vocabulary
and
phrases
of
time
in
the
context
of
the
reading
text.
Background
Class
Profile
A
mixed
group
of
adults,
ranging
from
mid
30’s
to
late
30’s.
All
of
them
are
native
Turkish
speakers.
Two
of
the
students
are
regular.
They
know
each
other
well
and
they
are
quite
talkative.
Assumptions
Ss
will
be
motivated
to
complete
activities
related
to
the
reading
text.
They
will
also
complete
the
pre-‐reading
and
specific
information
task
to
support
the
main
aim
and
highlight
the
TL.
There
will
be
additional
practices
to
support
the
subsidiary
aims
around
the
topic
‘phrases
for
time’.

Fit
In
the
last
lesson,
Ss
have
been
discussing
about
daily
activities,
personal
liking
and
disliking.
In
the
next
lesson,
they
will
complete
a
reading
task
about
choosing
a
holiday
activity.
Anticipated
Problems
&
Solutions
Students
may
not
be
able
to
understand
new
vocabulary
and
phrases
for
time
at
first
glance.
I
will
try
to
make
them
comprehend
the
vocabulary
and
phrases
for
time
by
asking
CCQ,
MFP,
play
a
video,
and
complete
controlled
practices
to
improve
their
ability
over
the
topic.
