Attestations Request Form

British Council attestation service is provided for individuals who are UK educational qualification holders.
British Council will attest all education, training and professional awards, including certificates, degrees and
diplomas, at all levels issued by any accredited UK institution or organisation. It will not attest any of the
following documents:

• Passports
• ID cards
• Birth certificates
• Testimonials
• Marriage certificates
• Any other documents required by the educational institution or employer in question.

The attestation service is a 4-step process.

British Council Service Charges for Attestation Service*

• Attestation of UK GCE examination certificate copies (verified through CIE Direct website)
Rs 750 – for attesting up to 4 GCE certificate photocopies can be attested.

• For non – GCE qualifications

Rs 2,500 -for attesting up to 4 photocopies

*The qualification issuing body in the UK may have their own charge for verifying the documents that
we have been asked to attest.
Any charge for such verification is to be paid for by the candidate to British Council once we have been
informed of the charge and advised the applicant of the same

As the British Council needs to verify the qualification/result with the issuing authority before attesting, we
cannot give a definitive delivery time for this service. However we will endeavour to deliver within three days in
the case of GCE certificates and for other qualifications at the earliest once the qualification has been verified.

If after two reminders sent by the British Council, the award issuing authority does not respond to its request to
verify the result/document, the original will be returned to the customer and a refund will be issued subject to an
administration charge of Rs 500.

Step 2: Payment
You must fill out a British Council deposit slip, available at the below stated banks, when making the payment.
Please write the purpose for which you are depositing the fee on the deposit slip. For example, if you are
depositing the Attestation fee, write ‘Attestation Fee’. SCB designated branches which offer free drop-box mailing

Step 3:
Phone the nearest British Council office and make an appointment for the attestation service with the Exams
Officer. Report on the agreed time at the respective British Council office with your original educational
documents and bank deposit fee slip. Submit the completed attestation request form and documents to the
exams officer. Retain a photocopy of the signed request form. Please note that the attestation request forms
received through courier/postal system will not be entertained. The attestation service is available through prior
appointments only. British Council offices are closed on weekends and public holidays.

Step 4:
Collect your original and attested documents at the agreed time. Documents will only be returned to the person
who submitted them. We pride ourselves on providing a quality service and will take all reasonable steps to
ensure that the attestations take place on time. To help us do this, please ensure that you are familiar with the
arrangements and any relevant regulations concerning your attestations request. The British Council cannot be
held responsible for events or circumstances, which are outside its control or for any error, fault or omission by
any other third party.

Please note that British Council reserves the right to reject attestation of any document if the document is found
to be altered or defaced in any way or if there is any question regarding the originality of the document.
