Introduction

At least 1,000 government laptops, computers and USB flash drives have been

reported lost or stolen since the general election in May 2015, according to official

figures.

In the business sector, companies lost 12,000 customers and employees records

on missing flash drive sticks. At the average cost of 214 dollars per record, the loss

amount could go north of 2.5 million dollars for the companies, according to the study of

Ponemen Institute. "While these devices may be small," the study said, "the data

breaches that can result from lost or stolen flash drives are huge. More than 70 percent

of respondents in this study say that they are absolutely certain (47 percent) or believe

that it was most likely (23 percent) that a data breach was caused by sensitive or

confidential information contained on a missing flash drive."

In schools, the flash drives are used to become storage containing students and

faculty files, lessons plans and other document files. In University of Toledo prompted

the university to send out letters alerting those affected by the “security incident.” A UT

faculty member lost an unencrypted flash drive containing personal information

belonging to some students, faculty, staff, and external research coordinators,

according to the letter. That information included names, addresses, and Social Security

numbers, and possibly birth dates.

Research from retail analyst, Mintel has found out that one in four people who

very much use them to tell the time. In 2017, the United States ranked fifth, 11.1 million

watches, exported that year.

According to Forbes, that even though there is a significant rise for smart

phones, there is still a place for traditional watches, in their conducted survey, 7 out of

10 person still wearing watches to match to their outfits.

With these facts, this study aims to solve the problem of some workers and

students regarding to their flash drives. Flash drives are small devices that can store

different important files. These days, flash drives are everywhere specially in some

workers and students because of modernization and technology. The problem is

because of its littleness some people lose it and it's hard for them to find it.

This research aim to innovate a product that may solve the problem. Since

watches are worn by most of the people, the researchers see this device to become a

storage for a small flash drives to avoid misplacements. The product will be called Flash

Watch. Flash Watch is a watch with a detachable flash drive to ensure that the flash

drive is always within its owner.

This research entitled Flash Watch: A tool for avoiding misplacement of flash

drive to the students and employees of National College of Business and Arts was

concerned with the problem of people losing their flash drives containing their important

files. After a thorough identification and analysis of conflicts or problems as experienced

by the users of flash drive in National Collage of Business and Arts Fairview, users,

especially Senior High School students and employees are also experiencing conflicts

in using these products. Employees and students in other school are not included

because the main focus of the research is only in National College of Business and Arts

Fairview. It is not also about the brand that they are using and the malfunctioning of

watches and flash drives. The researchers didn’t focus about the sizes, color, length

and width of flash drives.

The study consider factors on how effective flash watch to employees and

student. Each of the respondents is given same questionnaires to answer. This study is

conducted on the S.Y. 2018-2019, 2nd Semester within three months.

Findings of this research may provide deeper understanding about the

importance of Flash Watch: A tool for avoiding misplacement of flash drive to the

students and employees of National College of Business and Arts. Furthermore, the

study could be important to the following:

To the students, the product may help them to secure the files that they needed

in school and help prevent misplacement of their flash drive.

To the consumers, the product will may benefit them when it comes to their

interests like movies, music, etc.

To the business owners, through this study, it will help them decide and make an

innovated flash drive that will surely salable to the market. Flash Watch may also

resolve their problems about losing important files. As a business owner, they also need

to keep files regarding to their business.

To the employees, it will be very helpful for them because most of the employees

have important files that are needed to be secured. This product will help them to be

with their flash drive during work anytime and anywhere without being crammed finding

it. Employees can use it whenever they need it. It can also solve their problem when

they always left their flash drive at home. Flash Watch is a 2 in 1 product, when they

wear their watch; they already brought their flash drive.

To the future researchers, this study can be a guide for them when they are

studying a related product. It can help them to add more ideas about their study.

Methodology

Procedure

The study is all about the watch with a detachable flash drive called Flash Watch.

Flash Watch was created to lessen the problems of flash drive users who normally lost

or misplace it.

Action research was used as the research design for this study. According to

Richard Sagor, action research is a disciplined process of inquiry conducted by and for

those taking the action .The primary reason for engaging in action research to assist the

"actor" in improving and/or refining his or her actions. Practitioners who engage in

action research inevitably find it to be an empowering experience. Action research has

this positive effect for many reasons. Obviously, the most important is that action

research is always relevant to the participants. Relevance is guaranteed because the

focus of each research project is determined by the researchers, who are also the

primary consumer of findings.

Structured Interview was used as the instrument in gathering data from the

respondents. According to Kvale and Brinkman 2008, structured interview or also

known as standardized interview is a research method that aims to ensure that each

interview is presented with exactly the same questions in the same order. This ensures

that answers can be reliably aggregated and that comparisons can be made with

confidence between sample subgroups or between different survey periods.

The researcher decided to divide the respondents in four sectors, the students,

the employees, the business owners, and the consumers, since they are the one who

will benefit the most according to the significance of the study. They will choose two

respondents in every sector, so in total there are eight respondents. Each respondent

tested the product in two days and then proceed to the structured interview.

RESULTS

This section contains the information gathered from the Senior High School

respondents of National College of Business and Arts- Fairview about the Flash Watch.

This also includes the answers of the respondents on each questions provided by the

researchers.

Since only 6 respondents experience of having loss/misplaced flash drive, 6 out

of 6 respondents state that the files in the flash drive they misplaced or lost is important.

to a computer has a cover because if it is expose the

file can be corrupted. You place a protection but it

does not cover the part that connects the flash drive

to a computer well. We can say that the dirt or dust

from outside can corrupt files. I also suggest that the

lock should be more durable because some people

the flash drive are their lives and if it is lost that is

sad.”

DISCUSSION

This section contains the analysis and conclusions of the data gathered from the

respondents of the National College of Business and Arts. This also contains the

recommendation based on the findings of the study and recommendation for the future

researchers.

1. Did you experience lost or missing the flash drive?

Most of the respondents have experienced of losing or missing flash drives. This

proves that there were many cases of missing flash drives.

According to the official figures, 1000 cases of missing or stolen flash drives are

reported every month.

2. If yes, is your misplaced/lost flash drive containing important files?

All of the respondents who said yes also said that their missing flash drives

contain personal files and important files. This proves that most of the missing

flash drives contain important files and according the study of Ponemen Institute,

70 percent of their respondents believe that their files on their missing flash

drives are important and confidential files that may use against them.

3. Do you find the product efficient? Why or why not?

All of the respondents find Flash Watch as an efficient product because the flash

drive is always attached on their wrists. This proves that the efficiency of the

product is high.

4. Did you lost the flash drive while using the Flash Watch?

All of the respondents did not experience of losing flash drives when they are

using Flash Watch. It proves that when you are using Flash Watch it is

guaranteed that you will not lose your flash drive.

5. Does Flash Watch help you feel that your flash drive is secured?

Most of the respondents felt that the drive is secured while the others concern is

the water-proofness of the product. It proves that the security of the drive is

guaranteed but there will be an improvement to utilize the product further.

6. As a flash drive user, do you think it is convenient to put flash drive in a watch?

All of the respondents responded that Flash Watch is convenient. It also proves

that this product has a high conveniency.

7. What is your suggestion on improving this product?

Most of the respondents concern about its water-proofness and others concern

are the flash drive holder.

8. If it is available in the market, would you avail Flash Watch?

All of the respondents are willing to avail this product. It proves that the

design did not affect the consumers’ preferences and they are interested in the

product.

Based on the findings and conclusions of the study, here are several recommendations

to be considered:

To the business owners, it is recommended to invest in Flash Watch since

many reports that in businesses, when they lost a flash drives, they are also losing

millions of money.

To the consumers, it is recommended to use Flash Watch since this product is

very efficient and convenient to use and its features can help the users to fulfill the

satisfaction of security for the flash drives and at the same time it has a watch that can

lined their fashion.

To the employees, it is recommended to use Flash Watch because as an

employee in the business field, saving files and documents are very necessity

especially most of the businesses are using technology to keep their files. Therefore, it

is efficient when it comes to time because it saves time when finding the flash drives.

Whenever you are, your flash drive is always with you. Less worry since it is within your

watch at the same time.

To the students, it is recommended to use flash watch since in the field of

education; there are more paper works that included compilation of files on time such as

thesis, reports, notes, images, videos and any other form of files.

Recommendation for future researchers:

This study focused on the loss or the misplaced of flash drives. It is

recommended that further improvement on the product can be carried out such as using

a variety of flash drives especially those big flash drives and use of more fashionable

watches and digital watches. It is recommended to develop a water-resistant cover for

the safety of flash drive.

This study only be done in National College of Business and Arts (NCBA),

it is recommended to have a study on students from other colleges and universities to

see whether there are any similarities in the findings.
