Dear Parishioners,
TOO BUSY TO PRAY
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, amidst
the bustle and hustle of life, it is very easy to
forget to pray and when we do pray, prayer is
often treated as an appendage. Some who do
pray, quickly give up out of impatience as
soon as they feel their request has not been
granted. Corrie Boon, a Holocaust survivor
writes: “The devil smiles when we make plans;
he laughs when we get busy but trembles when
we pray." Prayer is our most formidable
weapon as it makes all that we do efficient
and sustains our relationship with God.
Christ despite his busy schedule made time
for prayer; to commune with his Father. In the
Gospel text of today, his disciples watch him
pray and after, one of them asks him:" Lord
teach us to pray just as John taught his
disciples." This prompts Christ to teach them
the Perfect Prayer, “Our Father" and assures
them that their prayer will be answered for he
who asks always receives ; he who seeks
always finds and the one who knocks will
always have the door opened to him. What an
assurance from the Lord himself!
"Our Father" is the perfect prayer because it is
not selfish; it is humble and a surrender to
God's will. For Benedict XVI, “When we say
the Our Father, even in the silence of our
rooms, we are not alone; we are in
communion with the whole Church and our
invocation becomes part of a great symphony
as the whole company of believers supports
us. Origen intimates: “Our entire life should
say 'Our Father who art in heaven' because
our conduct should be heavenly and not
worldly."
When we say “your kingdom come", it is to
stir the desire for the kingdom in us so that it
comes to us and we deserve to reign there. As
such, we must adopt the right conduct worthy
of that kingdom.
In the First Reading, Abraham intercedes for
two evil cities, Sodom and Gomorrah
"evildoms". His intercession is bold and
persistent yet humble. We are beggars before
God. We ought to make intercession for our
families, nation and the world. The world is
saved thanks to the prayers of the just which
serve like shock absorbers and shields against
God's wrath. Can my family, community and
nation be saved thanks to my prayers?
Let us pray at all times and perseveringly.
Pray when it is great. Pray when it is tough.
Let us not work and forget the God of creation
or get busy and forget the Lord of life. God
cannot be an appendix, for in Him we live and
move and have our being. (Cf. Acts17: 28)
Visitation: Those who have sick people who
are home bound could indicate on Sundays so
as to be visited by Fr Marcel during the week
on an agreed date and time. Those who wish
that Father visits and bless their homes could
do same.
Novena in preparation for the feast of Saint
John Mary Vianney which comes up next
Sunday takes place every morning after the
rosary prayers.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION
FOR ADULTS (RCIA)
Saturdays, 4:00pm-5:45pm

A programme for adults who are interested
in receiving the Sacrament of Baptism,
First Communion or Confirmation in the
Catholic Church. It is also open for anyone
who would like to explore their faith more.

PARISH OUTREACH
SANDWICH MAKING (PREPARATION):
Has been suspended for the month of
August. Will resume in the parish hall on
Fri. 7th September after Mass.
Volunteers are urgently needed on
Saturday mornings at 7:30am to help with
preparing the sandwiches, soups, tea and
coffee. Also needed are volunteer drivers.

125 YEARS OF JESUIT EDUCATION AT ST
IGNATIUS COLLEGE
‘St Ignatius College will be celebrating 125
years of Jesuit education at the college on
Friday 20th September 2019 with a formal
celebration dinner. Tickets are priced at £75
and are available now on Eventbrite. The
ticket price includes a welcome drink, 3
course meals and half a bottle of wine per
person. Any proceeds from the event will go
towards a new Sixth Form Building. Further

DIOCESAN MASS FOR ALTAR SERVERS
Celebrated by Bishop Paul McAleenan,
the Mass takes place at
Westminster Cathedral at 2.30pm on
Saturday 5th October.
Servers should bring their vestments to
Cathedral Hall and be ready to process by
2pm.
Concelebrating priests are asked to bring an
alb (chasuble will be provided).
All are welcome to attend.

please do let them know they would be
