1. A. CONTENT STANDARD

The learners demonstrate understanding of:

 the interrelationship among the the basic elements and features of lyric poetry and how they work
together to achieve meaningful effect.

 how to use the prosodic patterns of English to achieve effective poetry recitation.

B. PERFORMANCE STANDARD

 recites a lyric poem proficienctly and effectively

 creates a catchy and appealing commercial jingle promoting a new product.

A. EXPLORE

Activity 1- Recall the rhyme song entitled "Jack and Jill", write in a sheet of paper.

-Do you still knoe that song, class? -Ofcourse Ma'am. that was when we were

kinder.

-Yes, veyr good. Perhaps, that was the first poem

you've sang and memorized. Am I right? -Yes, ma'am.

(The teacher click on a powerpoint of another poem.)

-What about this one, are you familiar with this poem? -No ma'am.

The poem is an old English poem written many years

ago by a famous English writer, Christopher Marlowe.

Don't worry, we are going to know him later. The reason

why I posting these poems to you today is because the

two (2) are connected to our lesson. One of the

elements of poetry. but before we go this, let's have a look

to the writer.

(The Teacher play the powerpoint where the biography of Marlowe is written. She may ask one of the students to
read the biography)

-Can you just imagine how the writer create such lovely

words in this poem! What might be his secret?

-Writing a poem is not easy but once you love writing, it

will become easier.

-What do you think the elements that makes a good poem

like this?

-If you go back to the poem, what do you observe to the -They have the same sound ma'am.

-And what do you call this words? -Rhyming words ma'am.

-What are rhyming words. What is its use in creating poem? -Rhyme are words having the same

sound but different in meaning.

-This helps create good sound in a

poem, ma'am.

-Yes, go back to the 1st stanza. Will you give the words

having the same sound, Mellen?

(The teacher will also ask the rhyming words of the stanzas)

-Very good.
Therefore, one element that makes a poem good is its

SOUND through the use of rhyming words.

-To formulate these thyming words there should also be

a rhyme scheme to be followed. What are rhyme scheme

class? -Ma'am Rhyme Scheme is assigning

letter of the alphabet to rhyming words.

-How can we determined the rhyme scheme of a poem? -If the first word at the end of the line

sounds with the second, assign letter

"a" to it ma'am. If the third does not

sound with first and second, assign

letter "b" ma'am.

-Yes, very good.

(The teacher gives more example for the rest of the class.)

-Can you now, follow class? -Yes, ma'am.

Activity 3- Plot the Rhyme Scheme (RS) of the poem.

-Go back to the poem read and plot the rhyme scheme

(RS) of the said poem.

-Are you done, class? -Yes, ma'am.

-Who will do the first and second stanza? Yes, Mary?

-Very good. Any question class? -Ma'am what if the poem does not have

rhyming words? What do we call to it?


-If that is the case, what shall we call the poem? Symone?

-Oh, the poem is called a "free-verse" class. Understand? -Yes, ma'am.

-Ok, very good.
