Bass Player!

You must play the ground bass throughout the piece.

You are in charge of setting the tempo (speed) of the

piece and making sure everybody in the group stays in
time.

Check that your notes go up or down according to the

notation or the diagram below.

Hint:
…the clue is in the title!
- Your part is the bass so remember to use a low
pitch
Inventor!
You must create your own part to play over the
ground bass.

Your part must fit with the other parts.

Listen to your Bass Player to make sure you are in

time (it’s easy to get carried away when you’re
creating!)

Make sure your created melody lasts for 8 bars.

Hint:
Using the same first note of every bar as part 1 or
part 2 will help make sure your created tune fits
with the other parts.
Organiser!
You are responsible for the structure of the piece.

You must decide how your piece will start and how
your piece will end.

You are responsible for organising who will play when

You must make sure everybody knows which parts

they are playing, when to play and when to stop.

Will parts be repeated? How many times?

Hint:
Talk to the Bass Player and make your different
parts enter at the start of the ground bass.
Changer!
You are responsible for creating a variation of one of the
parts.

You must pick a part and find a way to vary it using one of
the methods from the list below:

- Repetition: decide how many times you will repeat each

note or every other note

- Retrograde: play the part in reverse

- Adding notes: add extra notes in between the written

notes

- Taking away notes: get rid of some of the notes, but

make sure you count the rest (space)

- Texture: play the same part in both hands

- Rhythm: create a different rhythmic pattern to play

the notes to.
Magpie!
Your job is to play any one or more of the written
parts from the worksheet.

The choice is yours!

Remember…they get harder and faster the further down

the list you go…

Once you have picked your parts, you must play them
exactly as written

Ask your Organiser if you should repeat these parts

and how many times.

Hint: The Bass Player is your friend!!!

Listen to your Bass Player to make sure you are in
time. If you get lost or make a mistake, join in again
at the start of the ground bass.
