one sport at a young ago until they graduate high school can have a dramatic effect on a person’s
physical career. The body will be adjusted to one motion for a long period of time that can cause
a detrimental injury. Playing multiple sports throughout a youth athletes career shows less
damage on an athlete’s body. Injuries increase when specializing in one sport at a young age.

This dissertation was to find causes and effects of youth sport specialization. Specializing in one
sport at a young age is a newer topic that has risen in the past two decades. Parents and
coaches are a cause of trend. The findings showed that there was no correlation between
specializing in one sport and playing multiple sports at a young age. Although, there was a
relationship between family socioeconomic status and athletes who specialize in one sport
early.
