From Tekla Structures to Midas Gen / Civil

Generating the A&D in Tekla

From Tekla/Analysis select the pull down menu called NEW MODEL.

Press NEW
More settings

Allows the user to activate a secondary windows with more advanced options
Note:

The other TABS called Analysis , jobs are not used by the procedure
The analysis option , in particular the seismic options must be input directly using Midas Gen.

Once the A&D has been generated

Press EXPORT
The procedure asks to activate or Not the load combination generator

Select NO

Select OK

The procedure starts


Check warning/errors from data transfer

In case of errors during the MXT file generation the following message could be showed

The LOG review the list of errors (the file is saved in the C:/TEKLASTRUCTURES MODELS)

Below a detail of the error message is reported:

You need to be a suitably qualified engineer to perform analysis and design and
experienced in this type of work.
Please check the analysis model to ensure that it is in accordance with your physical
model requirements.
Never ignore errors or warnings that occur during the calculation of the analysis results.
These should be resolved before the results are adopted for whatever purpose.

MIDAS_TS_LINK: Model merging is enabled
MIDAS_TS_LINK: Updating existing MIDAS_TS_LINK model
The following pop up windows will appear in case of a correct termination of the procedure

Import the A&D model in Midas, complete the FEM model , run and design

1) Open MIDAS Gen


2) Select FILE/IMPORT/Midas Gen MGT File
3) In the next window select All File

- select the MXT file generated by the TEKLA to MIDAS procedure


- check the message in Midas/Gen MESSAGE WINDOW

Note:

In case of an ERROR Midas/Gen stops the import procedure. The User must check the messages
and restart the procedure from Tekla S.
An ERROR typically comes from the following reasons:

- Wrong ID for materials / sections


- Wrong nodes sequence for a 1D or 2D elements

In case of a WARNING the procedure continues . A WARNING typically comes from the following
reasons:

- Overlapped elements
- complete the MIDAS model (input loads, analysis options, etc)
- perform the analysis and design
- change the cross sections that not satisfy the checks
- Select FILE/EXPORT /see the following image)
Note:

The name of the model must be the same of the name before imported. The file extension must
be MXT

- Confirm with Save in order to overwrite the previous MXT file used
Recovery of Cross section changes in Tekla S

- Open Tekla S model


- Open A&D Design models window
- select Get results command

A pop up window will appear


New Members
The list of the new element eventually added in Midas/Gen that must be used

Deleted Members
The list of element deleted in Midas/Gen that must be removed in Tekla S.

Profile Changes
The list of the cross section changed that must be updated in Tekla S.

From Midas/Gen

- Generate the Model in Midas/Gen


- Select File Export Gen / Civil MGT / MCT file

Note:

The file must have an .Mxt extension and must be saved in Tekla S. working folder , under the
ANALYSIS folder of the model

For example:

Save the jobname.mxt file under


C:\TeklaStructuresModels\New model\Analysis\Model 1

From Tekla S.
- open a new model
- open a new A&D model .
- Press NEW

An empty A&D model will be created

- select Get results command and wait for the procedure termination
