Evidence: The tennis tournament

Imagine you are arranging a trip to nearby city for a tennis tournament next
Saturday. You want your best friend to go with you, but, she/he has a very busy
schedule and needs to return by Sunday.

For this evidence, you will need to complete three parts. For the first part (A),
you need to have a look of the information about the tournament. For part B,
you have to plan a schedule for the day and write it down. Finally, for part C,
you will write an email to your friend persuading her/him to come with you.

Let’s begin!

Part A

Have a look of the Colombia International Tennis Open official website. Then,
read the order of play, which is the official schedule for games that has been
released by the tournament officials.

Part B

For this part of the evidence, you need to write a schedule for the day in which
you consider the following aspects.

 Commuting: You live in a different city. Consider the transportation means

you will be using for getting to Bogota and register the time you will be
arriving. The same instruction applies for considering your return to your
home city / town.

 Transportation: Consider the time you will be moving from the train station,
bus station, or airport, to the Salitre Tennis Center. The same instruction
applies your return to the place from which you are departing (airport, train
station, etc.).

 Food: Consider the times of the day in which you will be having breakfast,
lunch and dinner. (You can also include some time for snacks in between
games if you wish so).

 Games: Based on the order of play and your personal interests, decide
which games you will be attending and include those in your schedule.

 Accommodation (optional): This applies only if you have considered

staying in Bogota and arriving to you home town or city on early Sunday
morning.

Now, write your schedule. One example has been done for you.

Part C

For this part of the evidence, you need to write an email to you best friend in
which you describe your plan in detail. Your idea is to persuade and convince
her/him to come and join you. Consider the following:

 You friend needs to be back home by 9:00 a.m., Sunday morning.

 Your friend is not a big fan of tennis, but you are, so, you need to include
interesting details about the players, the games and the tournament.
 Use the schedule to demonstrate how you will have done a lot of activities
during the day. For this purpose, you need to use the future perfect tense; for
example: By 5:00 a.m. we will have left home.

Now, write you email. Be as creative as possible.

Subject: TENNIS TRIP TO BOGOTA

Date: JANUARY 5, 2019

Dear Carlos

Hi, how are things? It’s Juan, your old friend. I hope everything is good in
your life.

Anyway, Next week there will be a tennis competition in Bogota. It’s the
Colombia International Tennis Open. It will be great.

I’ve got two tickets for the matches on January 10 and I wonder if you’d like
to come with me to watch those competitions. We’ll go by plane. Relax; I will
pay for the expenses.

I know you don’t know much about tennis, but believe me, it’s amazing, there
will be good competitors like Ronald Jankovic and Samantha Rogers.
They’re pretty good.

I know you’re a busy man, but don’t worry about that. I made a schedule for
the event. I will attach the chart on this e-mail. You can check it out later.
This is just an example:

We are arriving to Bogota at 9:10 a.m and by the time the first game starts,
we will have eaten something and talked in a mall near to the Salitre center.
It would be nice. Then, we will have had dinner by the time the other game
starts.

I think this is a great opportunity for you to know a little about tennis and walk
through Bogota with me. It would be fun. We will have enjoyed a lot before
we come back to Armenia. The games are exciting.

If you have to do something on Sunday, don’t worry. We are going to have

arrived to Armenia before 9:00 a.m.

I count with you, my dear friend. Tell me if you’re interested.

Regards!

Juan Ossa
