a. The client
Diana is 19 years old girl a former student of Palawan National School quite small at her
present age she has a loss teeth in front, a 4’9 estimated height and has a quite thin body, she
appears to be talkative because she talks a lot and she is open about her life. According to the
client she meets the father of her son in school. They had been in a relationship for almost 5
months when she gets pregnant. When she gave birth to her son his ex-boyfriend did not show
his face in the hospital because he did not admit that the baby is his child. Her son is named
Emmanuel, she gave birth to Emmanuel last December 2018 when she was 18 years old and she
was in grade seven, she was not able to finish schooling because of her situation.
However, according to her statement her ex-boyfriend who’s the father of Emmanuel did
not accept that he is the father of the baby. They wanted to undergo Deoxyribonucleic acid
(DNA) test but she did not accepted it because she knows that she is right and the fact that it cost
a lot of money. She told that she can manage to take care of her son.
As of now, she is living together with her parents in Barangay Mandaragat, Puerto Princesa City.
b. The family
The family is composed of five siblings and Diana is the eldest. Her second sibling stop
his schooling when he was in grade 3, he joined his father in fishing. He was not able to continue
his study because there are people who complained about him because of being mentally
disabled person. He stab his classmate and even her teacher back then. That is why they decided
to let him stop. The other sibling is still studying at Palawan National School and the youngest is
two years old.
Her parents expected a lot from her, his father wanted to stand in stage and witness her
daughter receiving her certificate of graduates. They did everything for her to finish her study
unfortunately, she gets pregnant. Her parents were so disappointed in her yet they accepted
whatever happened to her and she was thankful for that.
The family is patriarchal so as the father decision stand along. They barely stayed inside
their house they are always found in the bridge of the neighbourhood. Cursing at each other in
front of their mother is not prohibited inside and outside of the house and even in front of the
baby. The siblings quarrel about a piece of junk food and if the other one did not give some food,
they will curse at each other.
c. Socio-Economic condition
Diana’s mother Virginia who is 40 years old works as a laundress in order to earn money,
she do laundry with relatives or to their neighbourhood and she sell dried fish too. Her mother
bought milk and diaper for her baby while her father as a fisherman usually went home after two
weeks from fishing.
Their house is located between two houses, they are in the middle and it is not easy to
find their house. It is made of light materials such as “sawali”, the roof is made of nipa, and the
floor is made of bamboo cut into small pieces. Inside of the house at right corner when standing
in the door there is a small wooden cabinet which their clothes are placed in and at the top of the
cabinet there are the diapers and other things for her son. There is no division found inside the
house.
Diana did extra job like dish washing and cleaning of the house if there is someone ask
her to work for them she earn money she buy a diaper and milk for her son. Diana could do some
extra income in the place because there are people choose her to work for them. But still not
enough for the needs of the family.
V. ASSESSMENT STATEMENT
The client’s financial difficulty stems from being a solo parent and not having a decent
job where she can earn money to sustain their needs. Since her parents income are barely
insufficient to the family’s needs. She could not demand from them and plans to look for a job
instead.
Diana desire to go back to school now will not materialize sometime soon as there is
nobody who would take care of her son- not to mention that she still has no capacity at the
moment to go back to regular school. The Alternative Learning System (ALS) could help her to
lessen the expenses rather than going to regular school. And also she has a son that needs her.
The possibility of finding extra job is open to her if she chooses to study in Alternative Learning
System (ALS) because the class are Saturday and Friday. She is an example of a teenager who
does not have enough knowledge in the situation they are going through, because she mentioned
that when her sons grow up she will tell him that he do not have a father. She is also afraid to
take the risk of finding job outside their place because of her lack of knowledge and information
on how to find job. Hence, she is willing to avail the services offered by the government. She
provided all the needed requirements to submit in the office.
The client as of now do not have enough ability to choose very well between skills
training and studies for some reason. She is ready yet not prepared for the responsibility that
waited for her if she chooses to avail skills training.
The benefits that she could avail in solo parent program like skills training and individual
counselling could also help her address her problem
VI. INTERVENTION PLAN
GOAL: At the end of October 2018, the client was enrolled in solo parent program and enjoy the
benefits of it.
The client is in the middle of the process and it is still on going. The requirement needed was
already submitted but it is recommended for continues monitoring and follow up. Further
counselling will help the client realize her situation and will able to make her own decision.
