Important Information for International Students before Arrival

Part 1: Important notice:

1. Southwest Jiaotong University has 2 campuses in Chengdu. Make sure to find out
which campus you should arrive on for registration before your arrival. Please refer to
Part 3 of this notice for the Place of Registration.

2. Please reply by email (refer to 9 on this page for emails) to tell us where you choose to
live: on campus or off campus. If you choose to live on campus, we will arrange dormitory
for you and you need to live there for at least one semester; If you choose to live off
campus, you need to rent an apartment near your campus before your arrival and we will
not prepare room for you. If you don’t reply this email before 10th, August 2019, we will
interpret your silence as choosing to live on campus.

3. We have very limited rooms on campus. If you are not satisfied with your room
allocated by us, please wait patiently until there is empty room available for room-
switching. If there is no room available, we could do nothing to help you.

4. If you want to live off campus after 1 semester, you need to submit an application by
the end of the first semester （from 1st January to 10th January）and sign a rental contract
after your application is approved. And please make sure to move out the dormitory
before 15thJanuary.

5. Students who arrive ahead of the registration date need to find hotel to stay in. The
dormitory is ONLY open from the registration date.

6. We don’t provide bedding stuff. You can take bedding from home or buy it after your
arrival here.

7. Please prepare more than 5000 RMB or 800 USD for daily expenses when you come to
university, because new students will get the Sept. Scholarship at the end of Sept.

8. Please take your country’s traditional costumes here and we have lots of student
activities each year.

Part 4: How to Get to Southwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu?

If you are travelling from another city, we suggest you take train or airplane to Chengdu. Finding onward
travel from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport 成都双流国际机场/ North Railway Station 火车北
站/ East Chengdu Railway Station 成都东客站／South Railway Station 火车南站 to Jiuli Campus and
Xipu Campus is very easy, with taxis, metro and buses offering safe and reliable transfers into the city
throughout the day and late into the night.

North Railway  Bus: Take No.17 bus from NRS bus east  Bus: Take No.17 bus or No. K2 bus or
Station (NRS) station (火车北站公交站东站) to K2A bus to Jiuli Campus ; then go to the

Xipu (犀浦); then take a taxi to Xipu Campus
(about 9 RMB).
East Chengdu Metro: Take Metro Line 7 from East Chengdu Metro: Take Metro Line 2 from East Chengdu
Railway Station Railway Station (成都东客站) to Jiulidi (九里 Railway Station (成都东客站) to Xipu(犀浦),
(ERS) 堤); take D Exit out. then take a taxi to Xipu Campus (about 9

Please put your luggage at the janitor’s room and then go to the SIE Office to register.
ONLY after successful registration can you be allocated a room at the janitor’s place.

Part 6: Pre-Arrival Check List:

You should prepare a folder of documents to bring with you, including:

 Valid passport with student visa (X-Type)

 Original Admission letter and JW201/202
 Scholarship letter (if applicable)
 No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your homeland organization (if applicable)
 Original and certified copies of your highest diploma and academic transcripts
 Personal identification documents such as driver’s license or ID card
 Medical records (Physical Examination certificate / reports)
 Attested marriage certificate and birth certificates of your children from the local Consulate or
Embassy of P.R. China at your country (For those students who bring their families along with
them)
 Traditional costumes
 5000 RMB or 800 USD
