American Literature is a literature-based course which focuses on the study of American Literature for the student who
reads and writes above grade level and is highly motivated academically. The course follows the development of American
literature from the Colonial Period to the Twentieth Century. The texts selected are relevant and specific to their given time
periods. Emphasis is placed on the development of critical and analytical thinking skills through classroom instruction and
composition. This course has an End of Course Milestone assessment at the end of the semester, worth 20 percent of each
student’s overall average.

Classroom Library Contract


The books in my classroom library are not assigned for independent reading. They are checked out on a voluntary basis. By signing
below, you are agreeing to pay for ($5 for each book) or replace lost or damaged novels. You are also agreeing to checking the
content of what your child is reading in class as everyone varies in what they deem appropriate. If you wish for your student to not
read from my classroom library, they will need to bring a book from home to read during class.
