Summative Evaluation of Practicum

Master of Teaching

Teacher Candidate: Mathieu Thomas Corriveau

Year: 1 Practicum Session: 1
Dates: October 29, 2018 to November 23, 2018

Associate Teacher: Grant Hull

Grade level and/or subjects: Gr. 9 HPE
School: Henry Street H.S.
Board: DDSB

PROFESSIONALISM
Mathieu conducted himself with a high level of professionalism. He was punctual and had an extremely positive
attitude. He treated both staff and students with a high level of respect.

DIVERSITY AND EQUITY

Mathieu was very aware of the diversity in each of the classes he taught and was sure to offer accommodations
for anyone who required them. For example, he ran a fitness circuit for my grade 10 class and every station had
a modification that was easier for anyone who may have had a hard time with the original exercise. This was well
received by the students.

INVOLVEMENT IN SCHOOL / COMMUNITY LIFE

Mathieu stepped in to help with extra curricular every opportunity he had. He assisted with my junior boys
volleyball team, helping with practices on numerous occasions and helping on the bench as we eventually won
the LOSSA championship (which he attended in the evening). Mathieu also helped out with the junior boys
hockey team, volunteering to help out on the bench during a couple of games. He didn't miss a beat when he
went to Wilson High School where he joined in on the Inside Ride to help raise money for Cancer.

UNDERSTANDING CURRICULUM AND THE LEARNER

Mathieu put in the time and effort to put together lessons that not only met the curriculum expectations but also
the interests of the students. This was evident with his lesson on Lacrosse which peaked the students interest as
Whitby is a Lacrosse hot bed. The students were engaged and motivated.

ASSESSMENT, PLANNING AND INSTRUCTION

AS far as assessment goes I did not have Mathieu evaluate the students rather I just took him through my
process. I know he had great interest in the evaluation process as he took the opportunity to compare and
contrast the process at both high schools he had the opportunity to teach at. I'm sure this was a valuable
experience in that regard. Mathieu had many great questions and opinions on the evaluation process.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
Mathieu has a great "gym voice" which he used to his advantage but he quickly learned the value of gaining the
entire classes attention before giving instructions, not only to have his message clearly received but also in the
best interest of saving his voice. He improved in this area as he gained more exposure to instruction.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
Mathieu showed a genuine interest in the students. He would have extended individual conversations with
students about their future plans, offering them insight into his own experiences of post secondary and
encouraging them to pursue their interests. This is just another indicator that he has make the right choice in his

pursuit of becoming a teacher. As already mentioned he is an extremely positive individual. This goes a long way
in the teaching world when students are often unmotivated. An attitude like Mthieu's will pull a lot of kids along no
matter what mood they may be in. Overall a very positive experience for me as a Teacher Adviser. Knowing that
teacher candidates like Mathieu are out there, I would not hesitate to do this again.

Overall appraisal: Pass Fail
