Five Years Later

The crash of the thunder and the whistling of the wind outside signalled a chilly autumnal
evening. The rain was hammering down and lashing against the windows. Inside the
bedroom, a lamp had just been switched on and the duvet cover pulled back. Sat on the bed
were Jason and Verity. They looked at each other with the notion that what they were doing
was completely and utterly right. Even after all this time it was evident that they were very
much in love. Over the years Verity had been able to forgive Jason for everything and that
was a sign of true love. They took each other’s hands in a tight grip.

‘Why are we doing this again?’ asked Jason.

‘Because it feels right, don’t you think? Deep down I know you do’, said Verity.

Jason spent a moment thinking, looking out the window and reflecting on the past, the
present and the future.

‘Yes, darling, it is’, said Jason.

‘Time to take the plunge then’, asserted Verity, with a twinkle in her eye and a cheeky grin.

They climbed into bed.

‘It’s going to be a long night ahead’, said Verity, turning off the bedside lamp.

It was indisputable the love which Jason and Verity shared. Even though the past had
flagged up major issues for the pair including Jason’s wrongdoing with Susannah Heath,
anybody who knew the Lortahugh’s knew that the love and perfect bond between them could
never be truly broken.
