1. Write down a linear inequality for the total number of desired ads.

x + y >= 60

2. Write down a linear inequality for the cost of the ads.

20x + 120y =< 6460

3. Recall that the business wants at least three times as many TV ads as radio ads. Write

down a linear inequality that expresses this fact.

x =< 3y

4. There are two more constraints that must be met. These relate to the fact that there

cannot be s negative numbers of advertisements. Write the two inequalities that model

these constraints:
1. (x >= 0) 2. (y >= 0)

5. Next, write down the function for the number of people that will be exposed to the

advertisements. This is the Objective Function for the problem and is a function of both

X and Y.

P = 900x + 4500y

6. List of Constraints:

a. x + y >= 60

b. 20x + 120y =<6460

c. x =< 3y

d. (x >= 0) (y >= 0)

e. P = 900x + 4500y

7. To find which number of radio and TV ads will maximize the number of people who

are exposed to the business advertisements, evaluate the objective function P for

each of the vertices you found. Show your work. One of your vertices is a point

which does not have whole number coordinates. What does this mean in the context

of the problem?
It means you will always have to round down. There are a fixed number of people that

will listen/hear these ads and .6 or .4 is not considered a full person therefore you

always round down.

8. P = 900(17) + 4500(51) P = 244,800

This equation written above shows that 15,300 people will listen to the radio ads and

229,500 people will see them while watching commercials on the tv. 17

advertisements were purchased on the radio and 51 advertisements were purchased

on the television.

9. Reflective Writing:

The project itself was a great learning tool for putting newly gained math skills to the test

in a real-world scenario. I’ve always known that math can be used in every aspect of

your life, but it is somehow satisfying to explore it by doing it myself. Some of the

things I enjoyed the most about this class was learning to do things much like this

project. My favorite part would have to be learning the rate of return on an

investment regardless of it is annually A=P(1+r)^t or quarterly A=P(1+r/n)^t+n. I

truly believe that it will be knowledge that I’ll use for the rest of my life.

This project was great for teaching someone about budgeting their money as well as

knowing where every cent of an investment goes to. Inequalities are a great way for

representing equations or times in your life when there isn’t just one simple answer.
They are a great tool at calculating everything from what was done above, to the

grade you need to get on your final to receive an A.
