Son of Man Motorcycle Ministry (SOM M/M) Charter

SOM M/M is a motorcycle ministry in which members use their skill and love of riding to further
the will of God. We are a bunch of bikers who, through the Grace of God, help the less
fortunate and spread the Good News.

Our primary mission is always to spread the Word of God and the Good News of Salvation
through Jesus Christ. But we will also strive to minister to the spiritual and physical needs of the
less fortunate, concentrating on those so often forgotten by society: military veterans, the
homeless, the helpless, the lost, and the addicted.

Motto

“Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom
for many.” Matthew 20:28

We will serve.

Principles

We serve God and we value family. Women are welcome members, they are not property of.
We support our government and we love our Country. We value hard work in ourselves and
others. We value ministry and we support the Church. We are a nonprofit corporation and – no
one – should attempt to use SOM M/M as a source of profit.

Our plan is to stay very active in our community. We are doers, not talkers. We will ride, and
we will serve. These things take time and members will be expected to participate. However,
no one should ever use SOM M/M as an excuse to dodge responsibilities we have to our
families or God.
Statement of Faith

We are a Christian organization and we believe that the Bible is (both Old and New Testaments)
the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. We believe that Jesus is the Son of God
and that he rose from the dead. We also encourage honest and open conversation and debate.

Jesus said:
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to
you.” Matthew 7:7

We must never stop seeking.

Qualifications

SOM M/M accepts men and woman who are serious about their Christian faith. We do not have
existing church membership requirements because this ministry wants to welcome the lost and
forgotten. However, we are not just a riding club. We take our ministry and faith seriously and
all members will be expected to do the same.

Membership can and will be denied, suspended, or revoked based on a sinful lifestyle as
described in the Word of God, keeping in mind that we are all sinners saved by the Grace of
God.

We do not have an official alcohol policy. However, drunkenness is a sin and is not acceptable.
All SOM M/M events will be alcohol free and no alcohol is ever to be consumed while wearing
the colors of or participating in any event involving SOM M/M.

All members must own a licensed and insured motorcycle with an engine size greater than 500
cc’s and have a valid license to operate it. Reasonable periods of “looking” or “currently
between bikes” are acceptable.

Riding or non-riding spouses of members are also welcome to apply for membership, pursuant
to the same qualifications.

Personal Responsibilities

SOM M/M will not be held responsible or liable, directly,

indirectly or consequentially, for the actions of its members or other individuals.

Each individual is responsible for his/her own actions and the consequences of
those actions. This particularly applies to members who backslide, break any
laws, or are involved in motorcycle or vehicle accidents. All SOM M/M members
agree to hold harmless the organization of SOM M/M in the event the member is
involved in any problems, crimes or vehicle accidents. SOM M/M is committed to
a safe motorcycling and ministry experience and every precaution will be taken to
that end, but motorcycle riding has inherent risks, and ultimately, each SOM M/M
member must acknowledge his/her own limitations and his/her own responsibility.
in this endeavor. Accordingly, each SOM M/M member hereby agrees to hold
harmless the organization of SOM M/M.

Social Media

No member at any time, for any reason, is to use social media to communicate
personal opinions that jeopardize the efficacy of SOM M/M or its good standing in the greater
motorcycle community, that denigrate other motorcycle ministries, or mention, directly or
indirectly, the name of any motorcycle club. If in doubt... leave it out. Any member who violates
this trust will lose their good standing status and must surrender their SOM M/M patch and other
items.

Colors

Our members wear “colors.” Colors are the logo that identifies our motorcycle ministry,
generally worn as a large patch on the back of the rider.

No one is permitted to possess or wear the SOM M/M patch unless he/she is a
current member, in good standing. In the event membership privilege is
suspended or terminated, the patch and all other SOM M/M items must be
immediately surrendered to SOM M/M representatives.

Colors in the motorcycle world are a big deal and they come with a bunch of rules. Our colors
have been carefully designed as to not infringe on any existing organizations. First, they are
purchased, not earned. If you meet the qualifications and join the ministry, you are immediately
a member in good standing. There is no period that you must earn your colors. Second, the
letters MM are clearly displayed. They stand for Motorcycle Ministry, which is very different than
MC, which stands for Motorcycle Club. We are not a club. Third, it is a one-piece patch that
does not include top or bottom rockers.

Our colors are to be respected and protected. But never idolized.

The World of Motorcycle Clubs

While we are not a club, we will often interact with various local clubs while completing our
mission. Motorcycle clubs and motorcycle ministries are not criminal street gangs and should
not be treated as such. However, for those unfamiliar, the unwritten laws associated with the
club world can be very daunting. But, most of it comes down to respect.

Bikers for Christ M/M is probably the largest motorcycle ministry in the world. Their website
contains a list of rules when interacting with MC’s. It is required reading for every member of
this ministry.
