My writing and research process, was interesting, something that kept me busy and
interested. It also made me reach beyond my current level of writing by trying something new. I
selected the topic of vegan diet vs cancer, due to how cancer affects each state differently. I
knew very little about this topic as well. I knew nothing of the benefits of a vegan diet, or exactly
if diet had any effect on cancer. So, I choose this topic to learn, and share my knowledge with
others. As I went on with my research I started to see how things really worked. How does food
effect our bodies? How and why does cancer take the lives of individuals?
Learning all this new information, and how we can reduce our own chances of cancer
because of diet. Started to develop into more of a thriving desire for the “know”. I started to
change my own diet and see if I could see the benefits in my own life. This information I learned
that took me a step back was literally seeing cancer in people disappear. I thought to myself,
“They got cancer and had to fight it late in life, If I fight now, maybe my life will be more
pleasurable.” Things like this popped up in my head all the time. Or even knowing what meat
does to our bodies. I became more aware and focused on how I felt in the days I would eat meat,
and compare that to the days I tried the vegan diet. I was amazed in how even just a day changed
my energy levels.

Working with different mediums made it fun. I was tired of the basic word documents,
and I was ready to try something new. I reached out to something I’ve never tried, and did a
comic strip. In this strip, it showed a common discussion, that people can have to raise
awareness on the topic. I think by reaching out into different mediums also reaches out to
different audiences. Some receive information better with movies, or books. Vocally or on paper.
So, using different forms I believe got my point across to different individuals in many different
ways that “connect” with them.
I used three notebooks in a way I knew I could make them all connect and have a flow.
Instead of them being spotty with a topic explaining cancer here, and then the next explaining
my issues in writing. I didn’t like that Idea. I felt as if it needed to be smooth. So out of the
notebooks I pieced each one carefully. Starting off by how a diet relates to our health. Next by
how cancer affects our health with proof from a Oprah resource. And I just continued the flow. I
also would add and take away sentences to help. But, I kept the important information to get my
point across to an audience.

The goals I had in the beginning of the class was just to learn new writing ideas, things I
can do to connect with an audience. And looking back. That’s all achieved. My new goals
involve me learning how to paint a perfect picture and maybe even branch off again to
something like videos. But I also have goals to use these new forms in a daily life. Knowing I
can’t “write an essay” to everyone I meet. I need to change my approach on who I’m dealing
with.

The question, “Language and writing are resources people use to do things, be things, and
make things in the world.” To me I would never think how English 2010 could relate to an
individual outside of class. Unless you were a teacher or worked for the newspaper company.
But now, I see it everywhere, Facebook, YouTube, newspapers. People write in different ways
and different forms to reach the attention of a new audience. I see people making videos of them
working out and explaining how to do that work out after. People are using daily sources to show
who they are. And who they want to become. Authors write books, to have fantasy’s come to
life. Actor’s act in those movies to become someone new, someone they want to be. With the
resources, I’ve learned in this class I can use them in every aspect of my daily life, now and in
the future.

Also, the people that write, or try to influence others, their providing a way for them to
influence and convince others around them by reaching out to them in ways they understand. In
the forms they enjoy most, like I stated that could be a book or a movie. It doesn’t matter it
happens daily.

I for one attempted these ideas on my own through the coarse. I tried many different
mediums, one that brought me out of my comfort zone. Ones that were personal and deep
connections of mine to people that have passed away. I used everything I had to try and influence
others that what my main project was, wasn’t just for a class but for a way to provide and peruse
others to make a change in their life, as I have.
