Modern football coaching, like modern busines s, is heavily reliant on the collec tion and analysis
of data to improve per formance and on the use of innovation to gain a competitive advantage
– whether that is through the formations used on the pitch or the technology used on the
training ground. Where once this willingness to embrace technology was what distinguished a
m o d e r n a p p r o a c h t o p l a y e r d e v e l o p m e n t , n o w i t i s c o m m o n p l a c e; t o d a y i t i s t h e s o p h i s t i c a t i o n
of the technologies used and the way they can be aligned with more traditional values such as
