4 JACK-IN OF PILES
This work shall comprise installation of the precast prestressed piles, inclusive of pitching and jacking,
pile splicing and cutting, all in accordance with this specification and to the details shown on the
drawings.

4.1 Jack-In of Piles

Prior to execution, Subcontractor should propose the procedure for jack-in pile for Contractor
approval.

4.2 Installations

(1) Jack-in Pile Equipment.

The Equipment shall have the capacity to jack-in the piles to the certain depth and / or reach
ultimate bearing capacity as described below :

Pile dia. Depth Capacity Remark

400 Varies Varies Whichever is reached first

- Diameter and Depth of Pile refer to DWG No. TMGT-TRL-C1-DW-001 Piling Plan.
- Capacity of Pile refer to Soil Investigation and Analysis Report.

Jacking equipment, its accessories, and related equipment shall be subject to inspection and
approval by PT PLN BATAM prior to execution.

(2) Pitching of Pile

Piles shall be pitched accurately in the positions as shown on the drawings. At all stages
during installation and until the pile has set, all exposed piles shall be cut off to the ground
level by means of diamond cutter. All cutting of pile to the cut off level shall be prevented from
damage and deviated out of position. For all piles to specified lengths, pile head cut off shall
be avoided by using suitable combination of pile lengths.

(3) Installation of Piles

- Each pile shall be hydraulically injected continuously until the specified pressure gauge
reading and/or depth has been reached. A follower (long dolly) is not permitted unless
approval has been obtained from Contractor Engineer. The Subcontractor shall inform
Contractor Engineer without delay if an unexpected change in driving characteristic is
encountered.
- A detailed record of the jacking resistance over the full length of each pile shall be kept.
The log shall record loading resistance for every 300 mm of pile penetration.
- The pile other than frictional pile will be considered SET when the pile has ceased to settle
at the recorded pressure which gives a resultant load of 2 times the design load, unless
otherwise agreed by Contractor Engineer.
- Unless otherwise specified in the Drawing, all friction piles shall be jacked to the specified
depth.

- Piles shall be jacked in an approved sequence to minimize the detrimental effects of

heave and lateral displacement of the ground. When required, levels and measurements
shall be taken to determine the movement of the ground or any pile resulting from the
installation process. If any pile rise occurs as a result of adjacent piles being installed, the
Subcontractor shall submit to Contractor Engineer his method for correcting this and to
avoid similar occurrences in subsequent work.
- The jacking force has to be applied axially to avoid damaging the pile. If the system is
applying the forced through gripping the body of the pile, the gripping mechanism shall not
cause any defect on pile.

(4) Termination of Pile Jack-in

When the following criteria are satisfied, the pile jacking shall be terminated with the prior
approval of Contractor Engineer.
- The in-ground pile length indicated on the design drawing is mostly satisfied
- The termination criterion is to jack the pile to 2 times of the design load for a minimum of
two cycles or other safety factor as instructed by Contractor Engineer. The corresponding
pressure has to be held for minimum 30 seconds without settlement or unless otherwise
specified by Contractor Engineer. The process shall be repeated if instructed by Contractor
Engineer.
- In case where it is difficult to jack piles to the required depth, instructions given by
Contractor shall be followed immediately at the time and not allowed to delay the pile
jacking within 12 hours.

4.3 Welding of Pile Joints

(1) Pile shall be spliced in accordance with PC Pile manufacturer and/or as described in
attachment -1
(2) Pile joints shall be welded in accordance with AWS D1.1 or equivalent.
(3) Shielded metal arc welding equipment with sufficient capacity shall be used. Welding rod
shall refer to AWS or equal.
(4) Parts to be welded shall be cleaned of rust, mud and all other foreign matter by wire
brushing.
(5) After the upper pile in secured in position, the pile axes shall be aligned and offsets and root
gaps shall be corrected.
(6) Tack welding prior to full welding shall be done, for the purpose of holding piles firm in place,
if necessary.
(7) Prior to welding, the welding current, voltage, speed, and manipulation shall be confirmed.
Welding shall be done so that no defect may be caused.
(8) No welding shall be done during rain or when a strong wind is blowing.
Even under such weather conditions, welding may be done if the following conditions are
satisfied:
- The welder and the parts to be welded are properly protected.
- Approval is obtained from Contractor.
- Proper measures are provided for the base metal.
(9) The welder shall passes procedural qualification specified in AWS.D.1.1 or equivalent under
the local code and a copy of the certificate shall be submitted to the Contractor.
(10) After the welding work is completed, the welded point will be visually checked by Contractor.
