ABSTRACT

Topic: SCAM…: School Attendance Monitoring System with Biometric Technology

for College Faculty of Bernardo College with Sorting Algorithm.

Name of Researcher: Francis Gerome P. De Leon

Adviser: Mr. Mark Anthony C. Celeste

This study entitled SCAM…: School Attendance Monitoring System with

Biometric Technology for College Faculty of Bernardo College with Sorting

Algorithm had goal to produce an attendance monitoring of college faculty of

Bernardo College. The proponents used the Iterative Life Cycle in constructing the

system.

The conclusion derived from the created system was that the designed

system was more accurate and faster in monitoring and in generating report than

the manual system.

The proponents recommended that for the future researchers who would

like to continue this said system, they should include the computation of the salary

in the system.
DEDICATION

I would like to offer this research to our Almighty God who made us, kept us

going and gave us strength to finish this research paper and to my mom in

heaven, my family who have always been very supportive to me.

CHAPTER 1 – INTRODUCTION

The School Attendance Monitoring System is a program used for accurately

tracking college faculty attendance as its system gives the school or company a

method to monitor all hours worked by the professors in the school. This

automated attendance tracking device/ system provide timely reporting and

historical information to track attendance by the use of biometric technology.

Most business establishments today base the salary of a particular

employees on the number of working hours he/she had. These establishments

implement the use of bundy clock to monitor the working hours of their workers.

An office worker will simply punch in his/her timecard to validate log in or log out

time (Manacop, April 2016).

Biometrics is a technology that involves scanning and analyzing fingerprint

and matching them an information stored in a database.

The biometrics is a technology verify identity through characteristics of the

fingerprint. This system records details such as time in and time out of students in

the school.
OVERVIEW OF THE CURRENT STATE OF TECHNOLOGY

College Faculty of Bernardo College follow policy on time-keeping. The

officers are currently using a manual system that leads them to encounter

difficulties. Bernardo College, an educational institution located in Las Piñas City

is a private school which accepts students from pre-school to tertiary level.

The accounting clerk of the said institution is having a hard time in adding

up the number of absences and tardiness of the college faculty.

The accounting clerk will do the update in case of leave or absences of the

employees by logging in into the system. The system is also capable of generating

the attendance report with the summarized number of absences and tardiness in

time which was the basis of salary.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES

General Objective:

The general purpose of this study was to develop a system that will produce

an attendance monitoring of college faculty of Bernardo College with the aid of

finger scanner.

Specific Objectives:

1. To gather information regarding the current policy of the attendance of

college faculty.

2. To develop an automated attendance monitoring system using biometric

scanner that would assure the college faculty that all hours would be

accurately tracked, improve the present system and eliminate errors with

manual system.

3. To design a system for attendance monitoring of college faculty of

Bernardo College.

4. Adopt the use of fingerprint scanner for unique identification and to give

accurate log in and log out time of the college students.

5. To test the design for monitoring of college faculty of Bernardo College.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

How to apply the computerized attendance monitoring with biometrics on

college faculty of Bernardo College?

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF THE RESEARCH

This study aimed to develop a system that will monitor the attendance of

college faculty of Bernardo College through a fingerprint scanner. The system

functions the log in and log out of the college faculty, as well as their total number

of absences, tardiness and leaves.

The study proposed a time keeping policy for the college faculty. The

tiredness and absences of the college faculty will be monitored and established.

Every college faculty will have his/her own record, which contains log in

and log out, number of absences, tardiness and leaves.

The study did not include the computation of the exact salary of any

particular college faculty. The regular employees were not included in the system.

The system did not include the penalties to be applied regarding the violations

against attendance policy. The correction of data depends on the discipline

applied by the employees. The system could only generate reports that include

the contents of the database with the corresponding attendance monitory.

The system can generate a daily report and it also would be connected to

the accounting office.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE RESEARCH

The “School Attendance Monitoring System with Biometric Technology for

College Faculty of Bernardo College with Sorting Algorithm” will benefit the

following:

Bernardo College, the institution will have a more accurate and concise

monitory of the attendance of the college faculty.

Human Resource Development. This study will help the Human Resource

Development to thoroughly monitor the attendance of the college faculty in

Bernardo College.

College faculty. They will have a more accurate and correct log in and log

out. The system will ensure that they are the ones personally logging in and

logging out, hence the record will be most likely free from errors.

Researchers, this study will serve as a guide to the future researchers in

conducting research related to this study.

This research in hoped to enhance and improve the tracking and monitory

attendance of college faculty. Through this study, the time and effort of the

college faculty in encoding the logging in and logging out will be lessened.
CHAPTER 2 – REVIEW OF LITERATURES

This chapter includes the ideas, finished thesis, generalization or

conclusions, methodologies and other relevant studies. Topics that were included

in this chapter help researchers in familiarizing information that are relevant and

similar to the present study. These will also serve to bridge the gap between the

study of interest and the desired outcome.

CHAPTER 3 – RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter will discuss the method of research to be used. These include

discussions regarding sources of data, description of the participants, the

procedures in place, analysis of existing data. Current processes of Bernardo

College School Attendance Monitoring System for College Faculty will be

depicted using tools for systems analysis and design such as flowchart, context

flow and data flow diagrams.

Researchers opted to choose Iterative Life Cycle Model as the system

development life cycle. This cycle allows the back and forth movement among

each phases in the life cycle development in addition each phases is never really

completed until all the requirements are satisfied.

Figure I. Iterative life cycle model

A. Requirement Analysis this phase includes the data gathering for the

problem and analysis of what the system will do. Direct users and indirect

users were interviewed to find out exactly what they needed.

B. Design this phase is where the analyzed requirements were being put into

design. The design describes the detailed features and of how the system

will be built. The group designing the system by using Visual Basic.

C. Code this phase is the encoding of the design in a program.

CHAPTER 4 – ALGORITHM AND ITS MODEL
CHAPTER 5 – RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS

The conceptual framework presents the different modules of the system.

The problems that the modules addressed are incorporated as well as the users

of each module. In addition, the inputs, outputs, features, and tools and

technologies used can be seen. The portal is composed of nine modules:

preparation, request, consultation, defense scheduling, evaluation results,

revisions, document management, report generation, and consultation and

announcements.

Figure II. Conceptual Framework

As show in Figure II. The computer will be placed at the entrance gate of the

school supervised by the guard. Using the biometric system, the college faculty

entering will log in and those leaving will log out to record attendance. The

college faculty records will be stored in the integrated system or in the data base
which is connected to the Human Resources Development for the monitoring and

generation of report.
CHAPTER 6 – SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND

RECOMMENDATIONS

Conclusion

Biometric Technology offers a wide variety of application from security to

specifics of accuracy.

From the pre-test to post-test evaluation of the Attendance Monitoring

System for College Faculty, the proponent conducted, that it mandatory helps in

the everyday functions of the human resources department.

The Attendance Monitoring System for College Faculty offers great ease in

the use and application of human resources functions as well as on the part of

the college faculty.

Recommendations

1. Administration of Bernardo College, to allow the post-test evaluation and

eventually to everyday application.

2. Human Resources Department, to the training for the proposed system for

maintenance and compliance of requirements.
