VI. Rationale
One of the major concerns of the School paper advisers and
campus journalists is the lack of training and exposure to the rudiments
of Campus Journalism. Such concern, though not fully representative of
the plight of campus journalism in the country, indicates that there is a
growing concern in terms of the quality and efficient campus writers
produced. In the late 90’s government tried responding to such concern
thru the passage of Campus Journalism Act of 1991 and its
implementing guidelines; however the law itself including the
traditional district, division, regional and national competitions are not
enough to address all the needed skills of the campus journalists. Also,
some of the topics offered in such conference do not completely reflect
the realities of the upgrading world of campus journalism.

For these reasons, more lectures and workshops that offer

topics that could help our school paper advisers and campus journalists.
Fresh insights must be injected into existing ones to upgrade both the
School paper advisers and campus journalists’ skills and knowledge in
writing articles for school publications.

Therefore, this simultaneous training aims to develop the

journalistic skills of school paper advisers/campus journalists and
further equipping them with much needed skills in the field of
journalism.
VII. Legal Basis
R.A. 7079 or the Campus Journalism Act of 1991, seeks to
“uphold and protect the freedom of the press even at the campus level”
as stated in the law’s Section 2 (Declaration of Policy). The law also aims
to “promote the development and growth of campus journalism as a
means of strengthening ethical values, encouraging critical and creative
thinking, and developing moral character and personal discipline of the
Filipino youth (Sec. 2).”

VIII. Objectives
This training aims to:

1. Train campus journalists on specific journalism events;

2. Coach campus journalists into enhancing their competitive journalism
skills;
3. Enhance teamwork of the whole school editorial staff;
4. Prepare the campus journalists in their participation to the Division
Schools Press Conference;
5. Develop the specific journalism skills of the young journalists and
come up with competitive ones who will succeed in the regional and
national level of competitions.

growing concern in terms of the quality and efficient campus writers produced.

For this reason, we initiated a ” Two-Day Campus Journalism Enhancement Training-Workshop

for School Paper Advisers & Campus Journalists,” that offer topics that could help our SPAs and
CJs. Fresh insights must be injected into existing ones to upgrade both the School paper
advisers and campus journalists’ skills and knowledge in writing articles for school publications.

In line with this we would like to request Ms. Sheila Marie S. Ranque to be our resource
speaker for the said workshop scheduled on August 1-2, 2019 at Garcia-Hernandez High
