Division Schools Press Conference 2018

September 28-29, 2018
Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School &
Human Resource Division Training Center

Another year of the battle of pens and minds had come to a fruitful end.

The Division School’s Press Conference 2018 gathered the elite group of student-
journalists of the elementary and secondary schools in the division of Zamboanga City in one of
the most awaited competitions there is in the school year. It was participated by an estimated
number of a thousand students who bested each other in a writing competition like no other.
This year’s conduct of the DSPC aims to select the most prolific student-journalists in the
division to represent Zamboanga City in the Regional Schools Press Conference.

Held at the don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School, the press conference aims to
develop and hone young-journalists in the field of writing journalistic articles and produce
winners who will represent the division in the Regional Schools Press Conference in Pagadian
City come December.

The day started with the registration of the participants in their specified classroom-
venues. The registration started at 8 o’clock am. This was a change from last year’s registration
scheme where student-journalists and school paper advisers registered in the gymnasium of
the venue, which, when assessed was seen to have caused longer queues and waiting time to
get registered. The registration this year was seen to have facilitated the process more
effectively and faster than that of last year.

The competitions started simultaneously at 9 o’clock am. The focal persons for each
category and the facilitators carried out their tasks efficiently because the materials they
needed were already set and prepared before the competition. Hours before midday, the
participants had already finished their contest articles. The journalists headed straight to the
gymnasium and waited for the announcement of the winners which was scheduled at 3 in the
afternoon.

Unlike last year, the announcement of winners started early this year. It started 3:35 in
the afternoon. Everyone was anxious, nervous and at the same time excited for the results. The
once quiet gymnasium was filled with incomparable cheers and screams coming from the
student-journalists who were stationed in specific areas around the venue.

The awarding ceremonies went on fast and smooth. With the certificates readied before
the ceremony, the announcement of winners for the competition became fluid. The ceremony
was graced by Dr. Hilda B. Frando, Education Supervisor for Filipino, Dr. Valeria Fides Coteza,
Education Supervisor for English and M. Felix Romy A. Triambullo, SDS who awarded the
certificates to the winning student-journalists and their coaches.

The awarding ceremony ended at 6:12 pm.

The second day of the DSPC continued at the Human Resource Development Center.
Teams from the different districts met for the Radio Broadcasting and TV Broadcasting. School
Paper advisers also convened to witness the awarding of the school paper competition. The
contestants participating in the group competitions and their coaches were convened at the -
HRDC hall, while the awarding of the top-performing schools in the paper-based contest were
gathered in the covered court of the Zamboanga Central School.

The DSPC Working Team, spearheaded Dr. Valeria Fides G. Corteza- Education
Supervisor for English and the over-all chair of the 2018 Division Schools Press Conference, had
put up a wonderful job of bringing this year’s competition to a success.
