PERSONAL ETHICS STATEMENT

Ethics in simple words can be defined as moral principles that governs

individual behavior or conducting a particular activity.
Personal values exist in relation to cultural values, either in agreement with or
divergence from prevailing norms. A culture is a social system that shares a set
of common values, in which such values permit social expectations and
collective understandings of the good, beautiful and constructive. Without
normative personal values, there would be no cultural reference against which
to measure the virtue of individual values and so cultural identity would
disintegrate.

VALUES IN ETHICS
In ethics “VALUE” denotes the degree of importance of some thing or action,
with the aim of what actions to be determined, and what actions are best to live
(Normative Ethics), or to describe the significance of different actions. As such
“VALUES” reflect a person’s sense of right or wrong or what “ought” to be.
Personal values provide an internal reference for what is good, beneficial,
important, useful, beautiful, desirable and constructive. Values are one of the
factors that generate behaviour and influence the choices made by an individual.
Values may help common human problems for survival by comparative
rankings of value, the results of which provide answers to questions of why
people do what they do and in what order they choose to do them.
As growing up most of my values were inculcated by my parents, they taught
me how to decide what is right and wrong. While in school my teachers were
there to guide me and help inculcate my values further, my friends also were
reason that my few values that I have inside me. Different environment changes
and personal changes also had impacted my value system and change. It differs
from individual to individual and their value system altogether.
CULTURAL ETHICS
Values clarification differs from cognitive moral education:

 Value clarification consists of "helping people clarify what their lives are for
and what is worth working for. It encourages students to define their own
values and to understand others values.
 Cognitive moral education builds on the belief that students should learn to
value things like democracy and justice as their moral reasoning develops.

Individual cultures emphasize values which their members broadly share.

Values of a society can often be identified by examining the level of honour and
respect received by various groups and ideas. In the United States of America,
for example, top-level professional athletes receive more respect (measured in
terms of monetary payment) than university professors. Another example is that
certain voters (taken from surveys) in the United States would not willingly
elect an atheist as president, suggesting that believing in a God is a generally
shared value.
There are few restrictions in every culture for few their ethics might be different
and for others it might change as well.
For Example: Few cultures might think it is OK to kill and eat other while
people in different cultural believe won’t agree the same because of their
cultural beliefs and values might change and they might have a different opinion
all together.
In our culture respecting or seniors is at top whether they are right or wrong,
sometimes we are bond to our cultural beliefs that it affects our decision taking
abilities. We tend to be very conservative with our cultural ethics.

ETHICS AND CULTURE

Universal Declaration of Human Rights United Nations have given in their
“ARTICLE”
Article 1- All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and right.
Article 18 – Everyone has the right to freedom of thoughts, conscience and
religion.
Article 19 – Everyone has right to freedom of opinion and expression.
Article 23 – Everyone has the right to work, to free choice of employment, to
just and favourable conditions of work.
Article 26 – Everyone has right to education.

Ethics are moral principles or values that govern the conduct of an individual or a
group. It is not a burden to bear, but a prudent and effective guide which furthers
life and success. Ethics are important not only in business but in academics and
society as well because it is an essential part of the foundation on which a
civilized society is built.

Ethical behaviour is what all career people should aim to have. Not just the
ethical attribute but exceptional behaviour with this regard. This
is because in order to build a career, one must be governed by the rules of ethics
to safeguard oneself and others. Ethics are essential in the workplace because a
tough ethical code provides a non-threatening environment with high.

The truth is that, these traits are becoming rare in careers. Having respect and the
right attitude at work will help a person to develop not only at work but in life as
well.

Academic dishonesty is another facet of unethical behaviour. It is an action or

attempt that results in creating an unfair academic advantage for oneself or a
disadvantage for any other member of academic community. A child uses his or
her experiences in society to shape personal ethics. Family has a strong influence
on one's values and behaviour, parents establish rules from the start and it
becomes the basis for our ethics and morals. A personal ethical commitment is
part of what makes students a success. A lack of ethical commitment will always
result in academic failure. I personally believe that students who are academically
dishonest cheat themselves out of an education and harm their fellow students by
screwing the grading curve for the class as a whole. Therefore, academic ethics
are vital and students should commit themselves to maintaining highest personal
ethical standards.

In society today, people tend to make decisions based on the actions and choices
of others. Peer pressure is a very real issue that affects most of the teenagers of
the world today. it is a dangerous form of persuasion. It causes teenagers to easily
succumb to unethical activities under the influence and pressure of their peers
