The Association of Law Students of The Philippines, Inc.

The 30th National Convention | July 4-7, 2019 – National Capital Region

“ In this day and age, members of the bar often forget that the practice of law is a profession and not a
business. Lawyering is not primarily meant to be a money-making venture, and law advocacy is not a
capital that necessarily yields profits. The gaining of a livelihood is not a professional but a secondary
consideration. Duty to public service and to the administration of justice should be the primary
consideration of lawyers, who must subordinate their personal interests or what they owe to themselves.
The practice of law is a noble calling in which emolument is a byproduct, and the highest eminence may
be attained without making much money.” Burbe VS Magulta, AC 99-634 June 10, 2002.

As future members of the legal profession, it is only proper that we prepare and remind ourselves of the
journey that awaits us. The legal profession is a lifelong advocacy for justice, protection for our community,
and love for our country. We, as law students, are tasked to continue the noble brand of the legal profession
and should always keep in mind why we start this profession: it is not for ourselves, but for others.

MABUHAY! The Association of Law Students of the Philippines, Inc. (ALSP) sends it warmest regards
and we would like to invite you to the 30th National Convention with title:
“The Roles and Responsibilities of Law Students in Nation-Building”.

This year, the National Convention is set to happen on July 4-7, 2019 in the National Capital Region. We
have lined up a number of notable speakers and great activities which is aimed to achieve the following
goals:
1. To highlight the importance of character, attitude, values, and service among future members of
the integrated bar, through the various forums;
2. To provide a platform for students to engage in a discussion with community leaders and legal
luminaries;
3. To engage in a consultation with the students regarding the legal education in the Philippines;
4. To provide an opportunity for recognition for law students and student organizations for their
efforts in serving their respective communities and bringing honor to the brand of law students
and;
5. To encourage the students to build a network with future compaňeros through fellowship and
engaging activities.

We look forward to seeing you in the Convention! The succeeding pages contain the guidelines for this
event.
