Boxing

Boxing is a martial art and combat sport in which two people engage in a contest of
strength, speed, reflexes, endurance and will, by throwing punches at each other, usually with
gloved hands. Historically, the goals have been to weaken and knock down the opponent.

Amateur boxing is both an Olympic and Commonwealth sport and is a common

fixture in most international games—it also has its own World Championships. Boxing is
supervised by a referee over a series of one- to three-minute intervals called rounds. The
result is decided when an opponent is deemed incapable to continue by a referee, is
disqualified for breaking a rule, resigns by throwing in a towel, or is pronounced the winner
or loser based on the judges’ scorecards at the end of the contest. In the event that both
fighters gain equal scores from the judges, the fight is considered a draw.

While people have fought in hand-to-hand combat since before the dawn of history,
the origin of boxing as an organized sport may be its acceptance by the ancient Greeks as an
Olympic game in BC 688. Boxing evolved from 16th- and 18th-century prizefights, largely in
Great Britain, to the forerunner of modern boxing in the mid-19th century, again initially in
Great Britain and later in the United States.

Badminton
Badminton is a racket sport played by either two opposing players (singles) or two
opposing pairs (doubles), who take positions on opposite halves of a rectangular court
divided by a net. Players score points by striking a shuttlecock with their racquet so that it
passes over the net and lands in their opponents’ half of the court. Each side may only strike
the shuttlecock once before it passes over the net. A rally ends once the shuttlecock has
struck the floor, or if a fault has been called by either the umpire or service judge or, in their
absence, the offending player, at any time during the rally.
The shuttlecock is a feathered or (mainly in non-competitive matches) plastic
projectile whose unique aerodynamic properties cause it to fly differently from the balls used
in most racket sports; in particular, the feathers create much higher drag, causing the
shuttlecock to decelerate more rapidly than a ball. Shuttlecocks have a much higher top
speed, when compared to other racket sports. Because shuttlecock flight is affected by wind,
competitive badminton is played indoors. Badminton is also played outdoors as a casual
recreational activity, often as a garden or beach game.
Since 1992, badminton has been an Olympic sport with five competition/events:
men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles, in which each
pair consists of a man and a woman. At high levels of play, especially in singles, the sport
demands excellent fitness: players require aerobic stamina, agility, explosive strength, speed
and precision. It is also a technical sport, requiring good motor coordination and the
development of sophisticated racket movements.

the area of defense. Nice racket is a lightweight racquet and string tension has particularly
appropriate. The way how to hold the racket, namely:

Additionally players can make a move against the shuttlecock blow that comes towards the
right hand of weight Easily, so that the blow can be done carefully in both speed and

Tennis

Tennis is a racket sport that can be played individually

against a single opponent (singles) or between two teams of
two players each (doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket
that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered
with felt over or around a net and into the opponent’s court.
The object of the game is to play the ball in such a way that
the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The player
who is unable to return the ball will not gain a point, while the opposite player will.

Tennis is an Olympic sport and is played at all levels of society and at all ages.
The sport can be played by anyone who can hold a racket, including wheelchair users.
The modern game of tennis originated in Birmingham, England, in the late 19th
century as “lawn tennis”. It had close connections both to various field (“lawn”)
games such as croquet and bowls as well as to the older racket sport of real tennis.
During most of the 19th-century in fact, the term “tennis” referred to real tennis, not
lawn tennis: for example, in Disraeli’s novel Sybil (1845), Lord Eugene De Vere
announces that he will “go down to Hampton Court and play tennis.

Milky Way Galaxy

We live in a planet called Earth. Earth is one of eight planets which orbit a star called
Sun. Sun is one of billion stars spread out around a galaxy named Milky Way Galaxy. If one
star consists of eight to ten planets, how many planets are in one galaxy? The answer is
uncountable. Milky Way Galaxy is one of billions galaxy in the universe. Milky Way is the
galaxy where home planet, Earth, resides. Here are facts about Milky Way Galax
Milky Way Galaxy is an immense and very interesting place. It is measured that the
Milky Way Galaxy is 100,000–120,000 light-years in diameter. Our Solar System resides
roughly 27,000 light-years away from the Galactic Center, on the inner edge of one of the
spiral-shaped concentrations of gas and dust particles called the Orion Arm.
Milky Way Galaxy has over 200 Billion Stars. However this number is not fixed. It is
due to Milky Way is constantly losing stars through supernovae, and producing new ones all
the time, about seven per year. Milky Way Galaxy is a middleweight galaxy if it is compared
to other galaxy. The largest galaxy we know of, IC 1101, has over 100 trillion stars and other
large galaxies can have as many as a trillion. Dwarf galaxies such as Large Magellanic Cloud
have about 10 billion stars.

Most larger galaxies have a supermassive black hole at the center, and the Milky Way
is no exception. The center of our galaxy is called Sagittarius A*, a massive source of radio
waves that is believed to be a black hole that measures 22,5 million kilometers (14 million
miles) across – about the size of Mercury’s orbit. But this is just the black hole itself.

The most recent estimates place the age of the Universe at about 13.7 billion years. Our
Milky Way has been around for about 13.6 billion, about 800 million younger than the
Universe. The Milky Way began as a series of dense regions in the early universe not long
after the Big Bang. The oldest stars in the Milky Way are found in globular clusters, and the
age of our galaxy is determined by measuring the age of these stars.

BUTTERFLIES

Butterflies are part of the class of insects in the order Lepidoptera, along with the
moths. Adult butterflies have large, often brightly coloured wings, and conspicuous,
fluttering flight. The group comprises the large superfamily Papilionoidea, along with two
smaller groups, the skippers (superfamily Hesperioidea) and the moth-butterflies
(superfamily Hedyloidea). Butterfly fossils date to the Palaeocene, about 56 million years
ago.

Butterflies have the typical four-stage insect life cycle. Winged adults lay eggs on the
food plant on which their larvae, known as caterpillars, will feed. The caterpillars grow,
sometimes very rapidly, and when fully developed pupate in a chrysalis. When
metamorphosis is complete, the pupal skin splits, the adult insect climbs out and, after its
wings have expanded and dried, it flies off.
Some butterflies, especially in the tropics, have several generations in a year, while
others have a single generation, and a few in cold locations may take several years to pass
through their whole life cycle.

Butterflies are insects. A butterfly’s lifecycle is made up of four parts, egg, larva
(caterpillars), pupa (chrysalis) and adult. Butterflies attach their eggs to leaves with a special
glue. Most caterpillars are plant eaters (herbivores). Fully grown caterpillars attach
themselves to a suitable twig or leaf before shedding their outside layer of skin to reveal a
hard skin underneath known as a chrysalis.
An adult butterfly will eventually emerge from the chrysalis where it will wait a few
hours for its wings to fill with blood and dry, before flying for the first time. Butterflies can
live in the adult stage from anywhere between a week and a year, depending on the species.
Scientists estimate that there are between 15000 and 20000 different species of
butterfly. Birdwing butterflies have large, angular wings and fly in a similar way to birds.
Monarch butterflies are known for their long migration. Every year monarch butterflies will
travel a great distance (sometimes over 4000 km), females will lay eggs and a new generation
of monarchs will travel back, completing the cycle.

Global Warming

Global warming is an increase in the temperature of the earth’s surface and are the
result of the green house effect. The green house effect is a term to define trapped carbon
dioxide which causes the earth to the heat. Then, the global warming will much more and the
climate on the earth will continue to be hotter. You certainly feel that the current
temperatures on earth are so hot during the day. Then, we all must be thinking that there is a
problem with the climate change where everything becomes unpredictable. The season that
occurs in our earth cannot be predicted anymore as happened a few years ago. You need to
know that those irregularities are caused by global warming.
In detail, the global warming caused by human activity. Today, there are so many
factories are built. It means that they are going to produce carbon dioxide as their waste.
When they are built more and more, then the more carbon dioxide is produced. Meanwhile,
plant is the only element that can absorb the carbon dioxide and then convert it into oxygen.
However, the plants that are on the earth continue to decrease due to illegal logging, forest
fires, and the diversion of forest as a place of human lodging area. All of those makes the
number of plants continue to decrease and are not able to absorb all the carbon dioxide
maximally. As a result, carbon dioxide trapped in the earth and makes our earth becomes
hotter. One of the visible effects of global warming is the polar ice continues to melt so they
can flood the coast line in the entire world.

There are various things you can do to combat the global warming. First, planting at
least one tree on your yard. When one home has one tree, then from 1000 homes, there will
be 1000 trees. It was almost the same as a large forest area. Then, the tree that you plant in
the yard, can make your home comfortable and cool. Therefore, soon after you are read this
article, then plant any tree in front of your house and do not cut down the trees carelessly.

Second, you are advised to reduce the use of private vehicles. Of course you know
that vehicles produce carbon dioxide. A growing number of private vehicles, makes the
carbon dioxide is produced much more than before. Meanwhile, carbon dioxide is the main
cause of global warming. It requires us to use public transport instead of private vehicles so
that the number of private vehicles using can be reduced. Third, you should use a home
ventilation rather than air conditioning. When you use the air conditioning, then there will be
a CFC gas and it makes global warming intensity increases. Use the adequate ventilation,
then planting a few trees in your yard, so it will make your house cooler.

Questions :

1. What is global warming ?

meters.

The leaf is a compound leaf with it’s length is approximately between 5-15 cm. These
leaves grow opposite each other on it’s stem. It’s leaves are oval shaped, pinnate bones,
serrated edge, and tapered at the edge of the leaf. In general, their stems have thorns and
particularly shaped like a hook. Those thorns are used as a means of personal protective from
animals and used as a media for climbing other plants. They consist of 5 pieces of petals on
their crown. However, the species of Rosa Sericea only have four crowns. They are very
beautiful and varied in color such as: white, pink, yellow and blue. Their Ovary lies on the
underside of leaves and petals.

They grow well in temperate climate although there are several types of roses can be
grown in the subtropical and tropical climate. Besides being a decorative flower, it has so
many benefits, including as antidepressants, antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and a
source of vitamin C. It also produces oil called as astir oil. This oil comes from the

CACTUS

Cactus is a type of plant that can store large amounts of water and survive in
extremely hot and dry habitats. There are around 2000 different species of cactus that differ
in size, shape, color and type of habitat. Almost all cacti are native to deserts and dry regions
of South and North America. Due to their attractive morphology, cacti can be found
throughout the world today. Over collecting and habitat loss are major threats to the survival
of cacti in the wild. Certain species are listed as endangered, but luckily, trade of most
species of cacti is prohibited by law.

Size of cactus depends on the species. Largest species of cactus can reach 66 feet in
height and weigh up to 4800 pounds (when it is fully loaded with water). Smallest species
usually have only few inches in height. Cactus can have arborescent (tree-like), cylindrical,
rounded, irregular or starfish shape. Surface can be flat or covered with ridges. Cacti can be
green, bluish or brown-green in color. They have waxy
substance on the surface which prevents loss of water via
transpiration (loss of water through small holes when outer
temperature is high).

Cactus have spines instead of leaves. Spines can be soft

or rigid, straight or curved, arranged in rows or scattered. They
can reach 6 inches in length. Spines have two major roles: they
prevent loss of water via transpiration and keep the plant safe
from animals. Each spine develops from areole, which looks
like a bump or nipple-like structure on the surface of the
cactus.

Since cacti live in dry areas, they need to absorb large amount of water and store it in
the stem and roots for the periods of drought. Besides storing of water, stem plays role in the
process of photosynthesis (production of food by using the sunlight and carbon dioxide).
Water from cactus has higher density compared with tap water, but it is safe for drinking.

Roots of cacti are located few inches underground, but they can reach 7 feet in
diameter because water easily passes through the sand. Size and shape of flower depends on
the species of cacti and type of pollination. They can be white, red, orange, pink or blue in
color.

3. Cactus is a type of plant that can store large amounts of water and survive in
extremely hot and dry habitats.
4. Almost all cacti are native to deserts and dry regions of South and North America.
5. Prevent loss of water via transpiration and keep the plant safe from animals. Each
spine develops from areole, which looks like a bump or nipple-like structure on the
surface of the cactus.

The Dog
Dogs are one of the most preferred pet in the world. Their height ranged
from 12.7 to 86.4 cm. They have four legs where the front leg has five fingers,
while the hind leg consist of four fingers. In each finger, they have claws like
cats. They have ears that can be long and short. Their ears are upright or
hanging, and even some of them, ears cut off for reason of appearance.

They have many different hair types. Their hair may be hard, clay, wavy,
curly, or long and smooth. Their hair thickness is usually adapted to climatic
conditions. The colder the climate, the thicker their hair. The hair is composed
of two layers, outer and inner. The outer layer is a coarse hair which protects
them from dirt, ice, and snow. Meanwhile, the inner layer is a soft hair and used
to prevent loss of body heat.

They are animals that have a strong sense. Hearing and smelling become
the best senses among others. A dog is able to listen to the sound very well,
much better than the human. Then, they are also able to find a specific scent
which is so far from them. Because their hearing and smelling are so good, then
they become trackers and help the police carrying out the task.

Various studies have proved that they can see colors, but are not able to
distinguish the color from green to red spectrum. They are intelligent animals,
they communicate through voice. Sounds like a barking, growling, and whining
can show various expressions such as excitement, fear, and submission. In
addition to voice, they can also communicate via physical. Two dogs sniffing,
holding the head, and erecting the tail are the sign that they show interest and
excitement.

DRY SEASON
The dry season is a yearly period of low rainfall, especially in the tropics. The
weather in the tropics is dominated by the tropical rain belt, which moves from the northern
to the southern tropics and back over the course of the year. The tropical rain belt lies in the
southern hemisphere roughly from October to March, during that time the northern tropics
have a dry season with sparser precipitation, and days are typically sunny throughout. From
April to September, the rain belt lies in the northern hemisphere, and the southern tropics
have their dry season. Under the Koppen climate classification, for tropical climates, a dry
season month is defined as a month when average precipitation is below 60 millimeters
(2.4 in).

The dry season has low humidity, and some watering holes and rivers dry up. This
lack of water (and hence of food) may force many grazing animals to migrate to more fertile
spots. Examples of such animals are zebras, elephants, and wildebeest. Because of the lack of
water in the plants, bushfires are common. Data shows that in Africa the start of the dry
season coincides with a rise in the cases of which researchers believe might be attributed to
the higher concentration of people in the dry season, as agricultural operations are all but
impossible without irrigation. During this time, some farmers move into cities, creating hubs
of higher population density, and allowing disease to spread more easily.

Rain belt reaches roughly as far north as the Tropic of Cancer and as far south as the
Tropic of Capricorn. Near these latitudes, there is one wet season and one dry season
annually. At the equator there are two wet and two dry seasons, as the rain belt passes over
twice a year, once moving north and once moving south. Between the tropics and the equator,
locations may experience a short wet and a long wet season; and a short dry and a long dry
season. Local geography may substantially modify these climate patterns.

New data shows that in the seasonal parts of the South American Amazon forest,
foliage growth and coverage varies between the dry and wet seasons with about 25% more
leaves and faster growth in the dry season. Researchers believe that the Amazon it self has an
effect in bringing the onset of the wet season, by growing more foliage, it evaporates more
water. However, this growth appears only in the undisturbed parts of the Amazon basin,
where researchers believe roots can reach deeper and gather more rain water. It has also been
shown that ozone levels are much higher in the dry than in the wet season in the Amazon
basin.
