Day 1: The Human Context

nc
1. We Celebrate Life
A game, Pass the Message, will be introduced to the class.
- The students will be asked to group themselves into four. Each
group will be given one piece of paper containing a message.
- The aim is for each student in the team to memorize the

,I
message and pass the message by word of mouth to the person
in front by whispering the message to him/ her. Only the giver
and receiver of the message may speak during the game. The

up
message should pass through each member of the group until it
reaches the last person.
- The last person will write the message he received in a piece
of paper.
- When all the four groups have finished the game, the paper
ro
will be collected.
- The paper with the closest message compared to that of the
original one will win the game.
lG

After the presentation, ask the following questions to the

students:
o What was the goal of the activity?
o Was the game easy? Why or Why not?
o Were you able to really write the complete message?
Why or why not?
ba

o What was the message?

o What was the strategy of the winning group? How did
you win?
o What did you notice with the message that you have
Vi

written?
o How can we relate it with the Bible?
After the sharing, lead the students to the story of “Lolo Cardo’s
Molasses Jar” found on page 2 of the book.
Direct the students to the questions under Activity on page 2-3.

2. We reflect on Life

We Celebrate God’s Message
Ask students, Is it possible to follow someone whom we do not
know? Why or why no? Explain that knowing someone is the
first step in entering in to a relationship.
Emphasize the great importance of the Gospels in our faith as
ro
Christians. Have them realize the connection between the Old
Testament and the New Testament.
Clarify that though there are four Gospels, there is only one
truth: Jesus is the Incarnate Word of God who came here on
lG

earth to save us from the bondage of sins.

Point out that knowing the stages in the formation of the
Gospels will help us see that Jesus is at the center and the
Gospels were created through certain steps and that they did
not come from heaven by dictation from God. This process
indicates the nature of the Bible as a cooperative effort – God
ba

working through human authors.

Cap the discussion by telling them that the reason for the
formation of the Gospels is to faithfully communicate the Good
News of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Title: An Act of Love

Goal: At the end of the lesson, the students are to brainstorm on one act of love that they commit to do in
the coming week. They will role play such a chosen act of love. The activity will just serve as a starting
point to inspire them to be more loving in their Christian life.

Role: The activity will be done by groups. The students will role play an act of love which they commit
to do when they reach home or when they go to their own communities. They would also have to

.
determine the recipient of this act of love. After enough time is given for preparation, the class will do the

role playing.

Audience: Teacher and classmates

Situation: Love is the very reason why God created us and why He sent His Son, Jesus to the world.

,I
God also gave us the gift of love at our baptism to enable us to love. Today, where there is hatred and
selfishness in our society, many people long for, or hunger for love. Hence, there is the Christian
challenge to love God and one another. The activity will enable students to express ways on how they can
show love to God and neighbour.

Goal: At the end of the lesson, the students are to compose a song on how they can be signs and
instruments of the kingdom. The activity hopes to inspire them and appreciate their capacity to do
something for God and others, for the kingdom of God.

Title: A Blog of Inspiration

Goal: At the end of the unit, the students are able to come up with a “blog” which would contain an
essay or article inspiring people to be hopeful in midst of suffering or pain. The blog will emphasize that
there is glory at the end of time when the suffering is endured with faith and when offered as share in the
sacrifices of the Lord on the cross.
Role: The class in groups of five will come up with a blog inspiring people to be hopeful despite
sufferings. They are to encourage at least one group in their class or section to like their post. They may
also tag the other groups of the class to have an access to their blog.

Ask the students what Jesus asked the Scribes in the Gospel,
“Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say ‘Rise

In today’s world, there are so many doctors, medicines and
technology available for different sickness. Point out that even
with the available resources we have for prevention and cure of
ba

various diseases, it is still difficult for doctors to cure and heal

due to various factors. Point out that it is easier to forgive than
to heal. Healing entails evidence while forgiveness needs no
validation. Ask students why some people, even us, have a hard
Vi

time forgiving those who hurt us? Ask them why it is very hard to
let go?
Make the students identify the different healing miracles of
Jesus in the Gospels and the central message of Jesus in each
of His healing miracles.
Show the connection between Faith and Healing. Though
healing maybe physical in nature, however, one needs Faith in
God in order to feel healing and most especially forgiveness.
Healing and forgiveness is not given automatically. A Change of
Heart is needed to receive both.
Emphasize that conversion entails the commitment to change

1. We should detach ourselves from material things and people and
complete surrender to God who alone can give us the true happiness we
long for.
2. When we experience suffering and grief, the more we are able to
empathize and understand others about what they feel. This allows our
hearts to be open to the love of God and the comfort He brings us through
the Holy Spirit.
3. If we constantly seek what is right and good according to God’s Word,
there will be a good reward for us in the end. Even if there is nothing we
can get from others by doing what is true and good, we are expected to do
it since that is the right thing to do. Greater rewards are waiting for us in
heaven.
4. There are a lot of people suffering from different situations in life. We
should show mercy and compassion to people by listening, understanding,
empathizing, helping and giving.
5. We should be “clean of heart. Our focus should be God and not on any

other things. By making God as our focus, we will always think good about

ourselves and others. Our reward will be seeing God face to face.
6. We should consider all persons our brothers and sisters, therefore God
will acknowledge us as His children. Harmony and fullness of life can only
be achieved if there is peace in heart and mind.
