ARCHITECTURE FOR ELDERLY

Research Question: Is it possible to design comfortable environment by connecting nature

with built spaces both physiologically and psychologically?

Topic Description: The research topic majorly focuses on the effects of ageing and its
impact on design. With age our human body goes through a lot of physical as well as
psychological changes which can govern the design of space around them. Ageing as a
natural phenomenon has all along engaged the attention of the civilized world. The elderly
citizens are in need of urgent attention. Older persons are, therefore, in need of vital support
that will keep important aspects of their lifestyles intact while improving their over-all quality
of life. Older adults are often unable to detect as much sensory information from their
environments as their younger people. These people may also suffer from mental impairment
such a memory loss. So the design of space for them must not be conflicting to them.
Due to changing economic social and economic culture the traditional sense of duty
and obligation of the younger generation towards their older generations is being eroded. The
elderly citizens are in need of urgent attention. They do not need our pity, but the
understanding love and care of their fellow human beings. It is our duty to see that they do
not spend the twilight years of their life in isolation, pain and misery.
