An infrastructure project in a main central business district is being planned for. The project owner
has requested tenderers to prepare the tender with the management plan of the project. The
owner has also requested to have a specific plan for the site waste management.
(a) Discuss how the quality management system requirements stated in ISO9001‐2008 will help
support and facilitate good practice in the site waste management of the project. Noting
that good practice includes minimising the waste and its environmental impact, considering
reused and recyclable materials, etc.
According to ISO9001‐2008, procedures need to be defined for Plan‐Do‐Check‐Act. The
procedures are:
Policy setup: administration details (responsibilities) and setting targets (objectives)
Preparation and concept design: to reduce/minimise wastes
Detailed design: waste forecast and waste reduction actions
Pre‐construction phase: waste carriers, waste destinations, waste management and
recovery actions
Construction phase: recording actual waste movements
Post‐construction phase: key performance indexes, reporting, comparing actual quantities
with estimates and the declaration
