EXTERNAL PAINT ISSUES FOR TRANSFORMER TANK

This refers to the approved paint system for the external painting of the Transformer (vide Doc No.
1TY.710.30014.106 Rev 01). During the discussions with the vendor some apprehension was expressed
by the vendor for the use of the approved paint system. Accordingly, we have taken up this issue with
the paint experts from M/S Akzo Nobel (the suppliers of paint of international repute) and their comments
is as follows:

“However the use on Metallic spray conflicts and confuses. Either it is Inorganic Ethyl
Silicate based Zinc to be applied by spray methods or TSZ by metallic spray method. It
cannot be a mix”.

Hence in view of the above we have proposed the paint system as under. This paint system is tried and
tested and approved by all major utilities in India like POWERGRID and other state utilities. The same is
suitable of C5 conditions for 15 years. Moreover, we have used this paint system for our export jobs and
there has been no complaints so far.

Proposed Paint System

In view of the above it is requested to approve our proposed paint system. This will help us in ensuring
good quality of paint. We are submitting the revised paint spec vide Doc No. 1TY.710.30014.106 Rev 02
dated 04/01/2017 for approval
