I. RATIONALE

This present time, energy is an accomplished requirement for advance

development of a community. One of the most important energy resources this modern
time is electricity. The process of making electricity from many years until now for the
need of energy in all around the entire world however the whole world is currently
facing very bad energy crisis in spite of the numerous energy sources. The electricity
demand is on the rise in Negros Oriental due to the growing population and increasing
economic activities. But the country cannot conform to the pace of energy demand,
thereby there is now a lack of adequate power generation capacity, and the
existing national grid network is incapable to power the whole population.

Negros Oriental is the place that has a high electricity bills and has a bad weather
sometimes which can cost of losing electricity. People have a very bad time on paying
electricity every month and losing of electricity. As inventors, we came up on this idea to
help the people of Negros Oriental to have a less and save money from paying high
electricity. The community development of renewable energy resources upgrading micro
hydro electrical power into rain-inator is aimed to create a better life for people in the
rural area of the Philipines which is the entire Negros Oriental through developing a
sustainable energy especially electricity supply in the house. The project will be
implementing for houses and it will take in 2 to 3 months if the project proposal will be
present and approved by the government. There are hundreds of families and thousands
of people will involve actively in doing this project. Furthermore, to that, other public
buildings such as schools, church, orphanage, hospital within this community can also
use the output of this project necessarily.

The project will involve knowledge and skill of good inventors. Establishing this
kind of renewable resources using a hydro electrical power from the rain is a good benefit
for a family and can help mother earth from avoiding creating some sources that can
produce of damages the world because the source will be getting from the rain not from
water neither from falls or river. Instead of wasting the rain, we can use the rain from
producing electricity for the entire home. In this case, people can save their money from
having a high electricity bills and they can have electricity in terms of having a dreadful
weather. By doing this, we are still helping ourselves from costing a lot of money and
saving the mother earth without using a thing that can destroy forever our home.

II. THE INVENTION

These sections content the process and creative ability of the device that was
invented. The following are: the name of the invention, the graphic of the invention, the
parts and functions, and other information related to the project or devices.

A. Name of the Invention

The title of the project is “Community Development of Renewable Sources

Upgrading of Micro Hydro Electrical Energy into Rain-Inator”. The name of the
invention is “rain-inator” stands for rain generator because it converts rain water to create
electrical energy. And also it is inspired by the cartoon series; Phineas and Ferb where the
evil scientist loves to create dives and invention and named it “inator.” Since Philippines
are a tropical country we are abundant in terms of rain so why not tapping it as an
alternative source of energy instead of wasting it. Using rain to convert energy is a useful
thing and has great benefits on it. This so, we can have a less of costing electricity from
are homes.

B. Graphic of Invention

Our Rain-inator will be installed any area of the house either can be the side or
around the surrounding of the house and business in order to create a sort of mini
Hydroelectric Power Plant. The Rain-inator will have FIVE main parts and those are:

1. Rain –Produce and provide the water to the container.

2. Containers/tanks – Store water from rainfall.
3. Turbines – Create mechanical energy.
4. Generators – Convert mechanical energy to electric energy for use of
homes and businesses.
5. Battery – The one who will accumulate the electric energy that was
created from the generator.

Our invention works much like that of a Hydroelectric Power Plant but the water
that we get our energy from comes in the form of rain. Water that is produced from
rainfall is stored in our container/tank in order to create falling water to create energy for
the turbine. The force of the water dropping down the tube pushes against the blades of
the turbine in order for the turbine to spin. Our turbine is similar to that of a windmill,
except we use the energy that is falling water instead of wind. The turbine in our
invention converts the kinetic energy into mechanical energy. The generator is connected

4|Page
to the turbine by shafts and gears so that when the turbine spins it causes the generator to
also spin. After the generator begins to spin, it will convert the mechanical energy from
the turbine into electric energy. The electric energy that was formed will be flow to the
battery to store the electric energy. Lastly, our invention will be connected to the
transmission lines in the owner’s home to conduct electricity for their home or business.
Moreover, the battery where the electric energy was store will be manually use. It will
depend from the owner if they will use the electric energy that was formed by the
turbines and generator using the water of the rain and store to the battery but the process
will be continually operate as long as there is more water gathered in the container from
the rain.

C. Parts and Functions

 Container

It is designed to hold the water that was gathered from the rain. This
will help in containing water to create source of energy.

 Tube

Water from the container goes down slowly through this tube located
below the container which is connected to the turbine.

 Turbine

Water that goes down the tube will fall into the buckets of the turbine
and will cause it to move and extract kinetic energy that goes to the generator.

 Generator

Is a device that can produce various patterns of voltage at a variety of

frequencies and amplitudes. It converted the mechanical energy from the
turbine into electric energy. The electrical energy that was formed will be
flow to the battery to store the electric energy.

 Power Converter

It’s an electronic circuit for energy conversion, which converts

electrical energy of the supply into electrical energy suitable. As the turbine
extract energy from the water, the extracted energy will go to the converter
and converts the energy from the water to electrical power.

 Battery

Is a device that consists as power conditioning. It stored the electric

energy that was created from the generator.

 Transmission Wire
Is a path that carrying alternating electrical energy from source to load.
It concerted electrical power will pass for the entire house. The wires will be
placed properly from different sections of the house.

7|Page
 Exit Tube

A tube that is connected to the turbine which allows water that is

already extracted from the turbine exit through this pipe which leads to the
outside of the house.

D. Other Information

Rain is one of the last unexploited energy sources in nature. When it rains,
billions of liters of water can fall, which have enormous electric potential if used in the
right way. We designed Rainenergy to produce electricity from the rain, to solve the
problem of energy deficiency in rainy and low income countries, says Jamalova, whose
motto is “Light up one house at a time”. The nine-meter-high instrument consists of five
main parts: a rain water collector, a water tank, an electric generator, and a battery. The
collector fills the reservoir with rainwater that will later flow at high speed through the
generator to produce energy. The generated energy is stored in the battery, and can relive
pressure on the local power grid by providing communities with an additional source of
electricity. Rainenergy’s competitors for renewable energy include solar panels, wind
turbines and piezoelectricity which results from subjecting some solids to mechanical
stress. Most of these alternatives require substantial investment, labor, and energy or
electricity experts to build and operate them, whereas the Rainenergy device has a
relatively simple design.

Water is required in nearly all forms of energy production, and likewise, energy is
needed at all stages of water extraction, treatment, and distribution. Not surprisingly,
places that lack clean water are often without consistent electricity as well. The water
passes through the first filter, which is specifically designed to clean rain that falls during
the first two weeks of the wet season (since it’s higher in acidity, soil, and contaminants).
Then it’s stored in a tank. The water is flowed past the small turbine, and with the help of
pump, enough water pressure is exerted to drive the microturbine, generating some
electricity. When the microturbine turns, the rechargeable battery is loaded. After passing
through the turbine, the water proceeds through a charcoal filter to remove smells,
flavors, colors, and other contaminants.

Anybody of mass that has been raised above the Earth’s surface has a potential
energy relative to the same mass on the Earth’s surface. As explained above, by running

8|Page
elevated water over a turbine, some of this potential energy can be converted into kinetic
energy, to mechanical energy, and electrical energy. In the water cycle, water evaporates
via solar energy that is then lost again when water precipitates. This cycle of evaporation,
rain, turbines, provides a mechanism for the conversion of solar into electrical energy. At
best, the amount of electrical energy that can be generated is equal to the potential energy
of the rain.

III. ALTERNATIVE ENERGY

There are three kinds of alternative energy will be use of our invention those are:
1. Kinetic energy
2. Mechanical energy
3. Electricity energy

The following are the process to produce this three alternative energy:

It will start from gathering water which came up to the rain. The water that was
gathered will flow down to the turbine. The water turbines coverts the kinetic energy of
falling water into mechanical energy and transforms the energy into electricity in a clean
and respectful way for the environment. The turbines are the ideal solution for those
places where the electrical energy grid or for producing energy to be transferred to the
power grid. Water turbines provide a considerable contribution to ecology, since they
help to avoid the burning of vast quantities of fossil fuel and hydrocarbons, which are
held to be widely responsible for air pollution and the greenhouse effect.
