DAILY LESSON LOG (1st Quarter)

Teacher Learning Area Science
Teaching Dates Grade Level 8
Time
Section
I-OBJECTIVES
Content Standard: B. Performance Standard: Learning Competency/ies:
The learners demonstrate The learners should be able to develop a written (S8FE-Ia-15)
understanding of Newton’s three plan and implement a “Newton’s Olympics” The learners should be able to
laws of motion and uniform circular investigate the relationship between the
motion. amount of force applied and the mass of
the object to the amount of change in
objects motion.

Objectives:
1. Define balance and unbalance force.
2. Differentiate balance and unbalance
force.
3. Describe the effects of balanced and
unbalanced forces on the motion of an
object.
II-CONTENT Module I: FORCES AND MOTION
Lesson 1: BALANCED AND UNBALANCED FORCES
III- LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide Page/s :
2. Learner’s Materials Pages : pp.4-9
3. Textbook Pages:
4. Additional Materials from learning Resources(LR) portals:

IV- PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the
new lesson Show a picture of a man standing and ask the following
questions.
1. Are there forces acting on the man?
2. If there is what are the forces acting on the man?

Note: The man is not moving; the forces acting on the man
are equal. The floor pushes the man upward and the gravity
pulls the man downward.

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson Introduce the new lesson (Let the learners read the objectives of the new lesson)
C. Presenting illustrative examples/instances of Prepare a toy car with a string then ask the students:
the lesson 1.What will happen when you pull an object?
( It will move towards us.)
2.What will happen when you push an object?
( It moves away)
3.What will happen when you push or pull an object at rest on its opposite sides with equal
forces?
( It doesn’t move)
Show the students a toy car placed on a table. Ask a student to push the car towards right
with your one hand. In which direction does the car move?
(Car moves towards right).
Ask the same student: Now push the car towards left with your other hand. In which direction
does the car move now?
(Car moves towards left)
Now ask to push the car towards right with one hand and at the same time push it towards left
with the other hand. What will be the motion of car?
(Car doesn’t move).

Note :Draw out the result that if two forces acting on a body produce no motion in it, the
forces are said to be balanced. If the two forces produce motion in the body, the forces are
said to be unbalanced. If two forces balance each other, they must be equal and opposite in
directions.
D. Discussing the new concepts and practicing -Group the learners into four (4) groups .
new skills#1 -Group 1 and 2 will perform activity 1- Forces on objects at rest in LM’s pp. 5-6.
-Group 2 and 4 will perform activity 2- balance Forces
-Let the students perform the activity .
-rubrics will be used to g uide students in doing the activity (present and revised
together with students)
E. Discussing new concepts and new skills #2 Present and discuss balance and unbalance force.

Note:
 Forces occur in pairs and can be either balanced or unbalanced.
 Balanced forces don’t cause a change in motion. They are equal in magnitude or
size in opposite directions.
 Unbalanced forces always cause a change in motion. They are not equal in
agniyude or size in opposite directions.
 An unbalance force is also called a net force.

F. Developing mastery(guides formative

assessment)

Let the learner look at the picture and ask:

1.Based on the picture are the forces balance or unbalance?
2.What is the difference between balance and unbalance force?
3.What will happen if there is an unbalance force?
4.Can you describe motion?
Note: Balance forces are equal in magnitude or size in opposite directions and do not cause a
change in motion while unbalance force is not equal in size and /or direction and can cause a
change in motion. An unbalance force is also called a net force.
G. Making generalizations and abstractions about What have you learned today ?
the lesson •When two forces acting on a body produce no motion in it, the force are said to be balanced.
•When two forces acting on a body produce motion in it, the forces are said to be unbalanced.
•If two forces balance each other, they must be equal and opposite in directions.
H. Finding Practical applications of concepts and Show pictures of situations happening around them and let the students tell whether the
skills in daily living forces acting on the object balance or unbalance.

I. Evaluation of Learning Chose the letter of the correct answer.

1.When two forces acting on the body in opposite direction and produce no motion, the force
is said to be_____________.
a.Balance b. Unbalance c. Gravity
2.When two forces acting on the body in opposite and produce motion , the force is said to be
_______.
a.Balance b. Unbalance c. Gravity
3.Which of the following will happen if two forces in opposite direction with equal magnitude
acts on the object?
a.The object will move.
b.the object will not move.
c.The object will move then stops.
d.The object will be acted by different forces.
4.Which of the following will happen if two forces in opposite direction with different
magnitude acts on the object?
a.The object will move to the direction of force with higher magnitude
b.the object will not move to the direction of the force with lower magnitude
c.The object will not move eventually.
d.The object remains stationary.
J. Additional activities for application or Two tugboats are moving a barge. Tugboat A exerts a force of 3000 N to the left. Tugboat B
remediation exerts a force of 5000N in the same direction.

a. Draw arrows showing the individual forces of the tugboats in #1.

b. Are the forces balanced or unbalanced? ______________
c. In what direction will the barge move? ________________
