Agriculture refers to the production of food and fiber and other
goods through farming and forestry. It encompasses a wide variety of specialties
that brought development to the early civilizations. Development of agricultural techniques has steadily increased agricultural productivity, and the widespread diffusion of these techniques during a time period is often called an agricultural revolution. In the past century, due to the rise of technology, Agriculture gained improvements that enhanced itself but also the economy of a country particularly, here in the Philippines. Most citizens live in rural areas that's why as of 2017, 27.7% of the Filipino workforce still support themselves through agriculture. A way to revitalize and modernize the country’s agriculture sector is through agripreneurship. This puts forward the concept of agriculture as no longer limited to mere production but one that can be fortified by entrepreneurship. When agriculture becomes an attainable source of income for rural communities, these areas can also begin to develop in terms of other industries. When this happens farmers can no longer be susceptible to malnutrition or scarcity of raw materials, they can now buy food and at the same time sufficient food supplies will drive prices down. The Philippines can begin to have food that is sufficient and accessible to everyone. Many sectors depend on agriculture to provide raw materials. When the Philippines can produce high-quality raw materials internally, the need to export these materials will no longer exist. Creating a strong agricultural sector can in fact lead economic progress through export. Due to sheer number of workers in the agricultural industry, many of whom fall below the poverty line, improving their lives through the development of their industry can positively contribute to the reduction of poverty. By transferring entrepreneurial knowledge and skills to the agricultural industry with the guidance of the government, many Filipinos are able to improve their income and savings. Since agriculture employs many people it contributes to economic development. As a result, the national income level as well as people’s standard of living is improved. The fast rate of development in agriculture sector offers progressive outlook as well as increased motivation for development. Hence, it aids to create good atmosphere for overall economic development of a country. Therefore, economic development relies on the agricultural growth rate.
