A healthy diet is a diet that helps to maintain or improve overall health and will provides the
body with essential nutrition. To know more about this topic, I have read two articles about
balanced diet. Text 1 entitled “Understanding the importance to health of a balanced diet “ and
Text 2 entitled “Healthy Eating”.

Text 1 is an information report about “Understanding the importance to health of a balanced


diet”. Department of Health (DoH) said that obesity is one of the fastest developing public health
problems and the only way to tackle this problem is by choosing a healthy balanced diet. From
the Text 1, we will know that a healthy diet is the most important thing to take a good care for
everyone because it can avoid humans from heart disease, cancer and obesity. This healthy
diet can also provide energy and nutrients required to survive and stay healthy especially for
kids because they need more nutrients for growth.

Foods can be classified as macronutrients, micronutrients, phytochemicals and water. If a


person’s diet does not meet their needs eventually they will become unwell and this could be
due to an excess of a macronutrient which is can lead to obesity, or from deficiency in a
micronutrient will lead to anemia. Children, older people, those who are ill or have specific
dietary needs such as pregnant women will have different dietary requirements for their healthy
diet. Lastly, eating healthy food must be in long-term because it can lead to the healthiest body.

Text 2 is an explanation about “Simple Ways to Plan, Enjoy, and Stick to a Healthy Diet”.
From this text, we will get an information that our dietary pattern is the most important
thing for us to make our body healthier. Unfortunately, lots of people only think that healthy
eating is only about dietary limitations and so complicated. Actually, we just need to follow the
fundamentals of healthy eating if we want to have a healthy body. Eating healthy foods actually
can make a huge difference for our minds and bodies.

So, we must make a few small changes at a time and keep our goals to help us to achieve more
for the long term. To set up ourselves for success, we should prepare more of our meals, make
the right changes, read the amount of hidden sugar at the food labels before buying any kinds of
foods, focusing on how we feel after eating, limits our portion size, add more fruits and

vegetables to our diet, plan easy meals ahead and lastly, drink plenty of water because water
can help us to flush our waste products and toxins.

In Text 1, the main point is to have a balanced, healthy diet as it can provide energy and
nutrients to everyone. (Text 1, Why is a healthy diet important?). I agree with the main point
because we know everyone needs lot of foods as a source of nutrient to keep our body in the
best condition. But, we should remember that food can also be dangerous if we just eat without
having an active lifestyle. Beside that, from Text 2, the main point is a healthy diet must have
protein, fat, fiber, calcium, vitamins, mineral and carbohydrates in our diets to maintain a healthy
body (Text 2,” The Fundamentals of Healthy Eating “). I agree with that point because if we are
not following all of the food dietary classification from food pyramid so, we will be more easy to
involve with chronic disease.

Text 1 and Text 2 really can encourage our life to be more healthier but, the information about
healthy eating from the Text 2 is more appealing for me. In the Text 2, the writer use lots of
interesting pictures and images that can make me more interested to read their explanation.
After that, it is also easy to understand because they just use simple words to explain about the
healthy eating. From Text 1, the content is not really appealing to me because the report is so
complex and using lots of bombastic words. It will make me more difficult to understand the
purpose of their report. But, the Text 1 can also help me to increase my ability in vocabulary.

In addition, I can say that the topic from the Text 1 and Text 2 really make a connection to my
life because as we know, student like me should apply a healthy diet to make sure my body can
keep healthy to study and to achieve my dreams. Moreover, if I do not attain adequate nutrition
daily, my result for academic and physical performance can be decrease. So, I must follow their
information to make sure this problems will never happen to me.

My overall reaction when I read Text 1 and Text 2 is I am so amazed and shocked when I knew
that foods can make our body healthy and can also lead us to the risk of heart disease, cancer
and obesity. Now, when I knew that information, I am trying to avoid myself from eating fast
food because it has lots of disadvantages for my nutrition diet and always eating fruits and
vegetables because they have lots of vitamins and minerals.
