STUDENTS OF IDENTIFIED G11-HUMSS: CASE OF CNHS

THE PHENOMENON

Problem and Its Background

Nowadays, students who are late comers is one of the problems in school. They disturb
class and distract the other student’s concentration. If they are late it’s possible that they will
miss important lesson or history background that usually teachers share before starting a lesson
to help the students understand it more, even quizzes like pre-test it is also important because
instructors/teachers record it.
According to the rational study of the students at La Salle University, “It is important that
students must go to school in time”. It’s their responsibility to attend flag ceremony especially
Monday, because it’s the start of the first day of class in week. They must think to get ready for
upcoming classes. But there are personal problems that really unavoidable so other students
can’t cope quickly to the time that set that must go to school. There are factors why students go
to school late and it may have an equivalent effect to the studies of these students.
One of the causes of being late is tardiness, that can be a habit if It just disregard always.
It is considered habitually tardy if he/she evincive tardiness, being lazy always or they
intentionally go to school late. We notice that some of our classmates in G11-HUMSS intended
to go to school late, indeed disturbing our teacher’s discussion, so we are also distracted and
sometimes frown because the discussion suddenly stop just in time that we’re at the interesting
part of the lesson. It is considered excuse if he/she submitted an excuse letter or show some
proof or someone.
Most of the students become late or being lazy to go to school because they were doing a
lot of things at night maybe important or not. According to the rational study of the students at
La Salle University, some were wasting their time in internet, chatting with friends, watching
videos for example k-pop music videos, playing mobile games and some were having their
review at night. They maybe have an illness or emergency that causes the student to be late or
worst absent from school. Sometimes students absent or just wait till the next subject because
they are afraid of something in school, like strict teachers, they do not have something to be
pass that day, sometimes they absent because of tiredness. According to Carnegie Mellon
University- Teaching Excellence and Educational Innovation “Moreover, if left unchecked,
lateness can become chronic and spread throughout the class”.

Attending the start of class is essential and regular, being responsible and punctual is a
precious key to success. It’s a proof that you’re a responsible person. Being prompt to class
also means you’re respecting your teacher because sometimes they are the one who wait for
students in the classroom. When you are late to class and missed some initialize quizzes or
activity, indeed you will disturb your teacher while having his/her break time or important job like
doing a lesson plan or preparing for next class because you need to fill in your incomplete.

Statement of the Problem

The aim of this study is to help the school administration that the students who are
involved n this case are will be more disciplined and lessen the numbers of the late
comers.
Here are some questions to find out what are their reasons:
1. Does the distance between the student’s home and the school contribute to
lateness in school?
2. If the students intentionally go to school at late time?
3. If they complete the activity, quizzes or borrow some note to his/her classmate
for the incomplete works and if they find themselves late work?

Objective of the Study

1. To identify what are the punishments that are effective to the students that who
are involved in late comers.
2. To know the reasons of the students why they are coming in school at late time.
3. To develop new punishments that must be effective to late comers.

Assumptions of the Study

1. The researchers assumed that the informants will be early to go to school.

2. The researchers assumed that they have changes in attitude and lifestyle of the
students.

3. The researchers assumed that the numbers of late comers will decrease.

4. The researchers assumed that they will be more responsible, discipline and give
importance to time.
Scope and Limitations of the Study:

This research discussed the causes of tardiness and this study limits only to the
students who are late comers in order to lessen the occurrence of tardiness of
the students in senior high school.

This study was conducted in CNHS starting July to October 2019 through
interviewing and giving suggestions of punishments to the student who are
involved in this case.

Significance of the Study

The outcome of this study in general will improve oneself to develop good
time management and will enhance good values. Specifically, this study is vey
significant to many involved individuals in the educational process. This study will
also help the following.

Parents: This research will help parents to spot the causes and help them to
make decisions, acts or motivational words in order to push their children to go to
school early or in time.

Students: This research will help students to make some changes or

adjustments on what they usually do to present them on becoming a late comer
student.

Teachers: This research will help teachers so that they can tell something useful
to the students, to encourage them or tell some advices in order to for the
students to become more punctual and manageable on consuming time. They
will not be disturbed during their break time for just the students who are
incomplete.

School: This will help school in order to solve the problem of late comers. This
will also trigger them to create some activities, programs or campaigns to make
students more educated and aware about becoming a late-comer student. They
can also make some strong and respectful policies out of this research.

Researchers: This study will help the researchers because they can obtain
some important information out o this. It will also help them to make some
conclusions and recommendations for the research.
Definition of Terms

 Essential- absolutely necessary; extremely very important

 Tardiness- the quality or fact of being late: lateness to something
 Punctual- happening or doing something at the agreed or proper time;
on time.
 Prompt- to move to action: immediately: being ready and quick to act
as occasion demands
