Within such a short span of time, I was able to absorb many details from Basic Computer

Application (BCA 10). I have taken for granted the many possibilities I could have known more about
computers and would have utilized that knowledge for a more effective output. From the history of
computers and how technology of computers have evolved through time and all down to the usage of
Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Powerpoint. Let’s take in to account that it is similar to
riding a bus, being guided of course by Ma’am Dimasuhid, on a tour down to BCA’s memory lane –
history of computers and know-hows of the different systems.

We tackled a whole lot on the history of computers, on where this kind of technology had
originated. We travelled back in time during discussions and went sight-seeing. We saw the oldest form
of computers, or manual calculators, the Abacus, to the Slide Rule, the Pascaline, Leibniz’s Calculator
and so much more, up to meeting one of the hugest and fastest computers like Supercomputers. It took
so many decades to innovate the former calculators to become “fully-pledged” computers. From
operating systems to the introduction of the applications or programs we, now in the present,
commonly use in creating systematic projects, reports and many more.

The next stop in the tour was at Microsoft Office Lane, touring down to the different Microsoft
programs. A particular time that I was most fond of in the tour was when we passed by a depth
discussion on Microsoft Word. It was really fun even though it was mostly challenging having to remind
us that there was a time limit, with the longest time given as one hour and thirty minutes. It sounds
longer than what you think of it but in reality, during the actual activities, the time provided for us was
enough. To be more precise, the time allotted for the activities was exact, that if you dillydally and do
not keep track of the minutes that have gone by, you could end up passing a late work. If I remembered
it correctly, it was on activities four, five and six that gave me a really hard time. It tested my patience
and placidity in working. Fortunately, I was able to finish in time, in fact, only a matter of seconds before
becoming classified as “work overdue”. I had not known there were ways to restrict your files on MS
Word, how very convenient to keep your files safe from being copied or edited.

After a long journey in MS Word, we made a short stop to see Microsoft Excel, I would admit
that I was really impressed how the program is very convenient especially in inputting statistical data.
The system is not very common to students in terms of usage, at most would be the basics, most
probably because they were left to think that it is a complicated program that required thorough
background on the system. But to my surprise, Excel was rather very handy and easy to operate. You
only have to remember the functions and formulas, input it on the system, and the program will take
care of the rest. With one drag of the same function, the rest will then follow.

Lastly, we made our last turn to Microsoft Powerpoint. It was the shortest stop we had yet still
very productive. Students often encounter reporting in their different respective subjects. Reports
sometimes are long and would be inconvenient to be written in more than one whole sheet of Manila
paper. Luckily, with the help of technology, MS Powerpoint makes reporting easier and more creative
with less effort. We learned simple tactics for efficient reporting using MS Powerpoint and how it can be
maximized when having long boring and detailed reports. From the simple details of choosing the
appropriate font style, font size and even filling in sound effects which are suitable and proper for the
data presented. I never knew reporting would make me feel so good, thanks to technology and its
innovators.
Our journey to memory lane has finally ended but upon leaving the bus, we have obtained more
knowledge that benefit us in our daily lives, especially as students. We never knew that we would learn
in such an extent. Thank you Ma’am Dimasuhid, it was a very educational ride and one that will
constantly remind us that we should never let technology leave us behind. Technology, after all, has
helped us in so many ways and we never know how much farther it can and will.
