PALAKASAN 2017 CULTURAL EVENTS

CONTEST AGREEMENT

This agreement, made and entered into MSU – Iligan Institute of Technology, this_________________,
by and between, the Kataastaasang Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral – College Executive Councils organized
by existing rules and regulations of the Kataastaasang Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral represented herein
by its Governors, herein referred to be “FIRST PARTY”.

-AND-

Kataastaasang Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral Institute represented herein by its President, Justin E. Te,
herein after referred to as “SECOND PARTY”.

WITNESSETH:

WHEREAS, SECOND PARTY requires approval and consultation of the Contest Agreement from the
College Executive Councils;

WHEREAS, SECOND PARTY has requested, and FIRST PARTY has agreed to the Contest Agreement
presented herein after.

NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of the premises and the mutual covenants and promises
contained herein, both parties agree as follows:
PALAKASAN 2017 | Cultural Events

General Guidelines

1. All the participants of every college/school must be a bona fide student of MSU-IIT, currently
enrolled for the academic year 2017-2018.

2. Participants must also have their ID’s validated. Participants with non-validated ID’s will not be
allowed to join any event.

3. The contests will be on October 25-26, 2017 at the MSU-IIT Gymnasium.

4. The participants must be at the contest venue at least one (1) hour before the scheduled time of the
contest.

5. Executive Officers from different colleges (excluding the institute officers) are allowed to join the
contests except the assigned tabulation and grievance committee representative from the different
colleges.

6. Requirements for registration:


a) Certificate of Registration or List of participants duly signed by the dean to validate the
legitimacy of the participants and must be submitted on the given date.
b) Music piece (softcopy)
c) Vocal Duet (minus one)
d) Pop Dance
e) Wanna Be (Music Video)
f) Chorale Singing Piece Lyrics

7. Registration of participants will start on October 10, 2017 9AM until October 21, 2017 6PM at the
KASAMA Office.

8. The following requirements must be submitted on the moment of registration. Final changes for the
participants, music piece and other requirements will be on October 23, 2017 6PM.

9. Only those who were registered during the given date can only perform during the Cultural Nights,
thus the KASAMA will be asking for the validated ID’s of the participants 1 hour before the contest
proper. Also, attendance of the participants will be checked during such time.

10. General props are permitted however it should be easily and quickly removed to avoid delay of the
next performers.
11. If the performer(s) will be called to perform but have not yet arrived on performing area they will
still be allowed to perform but they will be deducted 2 points per judge.
Note: Late performers will automatically be the last performer(s) of every event.

12. There will be an official timer to record the time the moment of entrance, performance up to the
moment the last performer in a team leaves the stage which will be the cue that the performance
has ended. No dangerous props such as fire or flames including powder, water and other materials
that could pose danger to the performers. Participants shall be responsible for the security of their
props. The event organizers will not be held liable for any lost, damaged, or stolen materials.

13. In relation to the previous guideline, competing teams are supposed to submit with them a
COMPLETE List of the materials they are going to be using as stage props on October 24, 2017
at 12 Noon in the KASAMA office. They shall be subject to inspection by the members of the
Safety and Security Team. Props deemed unsafe, or a potential hazard shall not be used by the
performers. Approved list then will be given to colleges 6 P.M on the same day. The
presentation and inspection of props is to be done two (2) hours prior to the start of the first event
for the night, props not in included in the approved list will be STRICTLY not allowed
REGARDLESS if its harmful or not.

14. In case of technical problems, the performers shall not be subject to deduction of points. In the
event of music and/or technical error or any other unexpected event, the Chairman of KASAMA’s
Culture and Arts Committee reserves the right to interrupt the performance and allow the
performers to start again.

15. The General Guidelines apply to all the events for the Cultural Nights.

16. Only those who are present during the final reading of guidelines are allowed to grieve; only one
representative per college is allowed to grieve after the event, he/she must register before the start
of the event.

17. A maximum of three (3) representative per college can attend the final reading:
i. Governor
ii. College Cultural Chairperson
iii. College Grievance Chairperson
18. Any violation of the above mentioned guidelines shall be subject to a two (2) point deduction from
each judge per violation, except for provision no. 13, which would subject the performing team to
disqualification.
19. Deduction of points shall be made by the Chairman of the Board of Tabulators, concurred with the
members duly represented by the participating schools/colleges.

20. In the point System, the college/school with no participants in any respective events will be
considered default and shall earn no points.

21. The KASAMA Culture and Arts Committee Chairman reserves the right to modify, alter, or amend
the above-mentioned rules or waive compliance therewith at his sole discretion if such steps are in
accordance with the purpose of the contest scheme.

22. The decision of the Board of Judges once signed by the Board of Tabulators is final and irrevocable.

Guidelines

1. The number of participants from each college should be at least five (5) but not to exceed seven (7)
members (instrumentalists and singers combined). Two (2) points will be deducted from the total
score for every member in excess or in deficiency of this provision.
2. Each group is only allowed to play three (3) songs in English, Bisaya or Tagalog language/dialect.

3. To avoid song repetition, a “First come, first serve” rule will be applied.
4. Total time covering entrance, performance, and exit should not exceed to eight (8) minutes. Total
time that exceeds the time limit is subject to a two-point deduction per minute from each judge.
5. Any violation of the above mentioned guidelines shall be subject to a two (2) point deduction from
each judge per violation.
6. The decision of the Board of Judges, once signed by the board of tabulators, is final and irrevocable.

Criteria for Judging:

o Did they introduce themselves to the audience? How good did they start & end their
performance?
o Did the band’s appearance, looks, outfit suit their music choice?

CHORALE (ACAPELLA) SINGING
Guidelines

1. The number of participants from each college should be at least fifteen (15) but not to exceed
twenty (20) members excluding the conductor. Two (2) points will be deducted from the total
score for every member in excess or in deficiency of this provision.
2. Each participating group shall render one (1) folk song chosen by the College’s/ School’s
Executive.
3. To avoid song repetition, a “First come, first serve” rule will be applied.
4. Choreography is allowed.
5. Total time covering entrance, performance, and exit should not exceed to eight (8) minutes.
Total time that exceeds the time limit is subject to a two-point deduction per minute from each
judge.
6. Any violation of the above mentioned guidelines shall be subject to a two (2) point deduction
from each judge per violation.
7. The decision of the Board of Judges, once signed by the board of tabulators, is final and
irrevocable.

Criteria for Judging:

Harmony and Synchronization 40%

Mastery and Originality 30%

VOCAL DUET

Guidelines

1. Each participating duet shall sing one (1) OPM song of their choice.
2. To avoid song repetition, a “First come, first serve” rule will be applied.
3. Accompaniments are limited to “minus one” mp3s not exceeding four (4) minutes.
4. The event will be more like a variety show where the performance will be nonstop. The
emcee(s) will no longer introduce the performers; the college/school they represent will be
displayed on the screen. After all the performers have performed, all of them will sing a song but
the performance of such is excluded from the judging. Only the duets will be rated. The judges
will be oriented of the flow of the event.
5. The submission date for their mp3s will be on October 10-18, 2017.
6. There will be no time limit for the performance because the KASAMA will be the one to mix
the mp3s provided by each college/school. The edited music will be given on October 21,
2017 and the practice of the song for their finale will occur on such day.
7. Any violation of the above mentioned guidelines shall be subject to a two (2) point deduction
from each judge per violation.
8. The decision of the Board of Judges, once signed by the board of tabulators, is final and
irrevocable.

CONTEMPORARY DANCE
Definition.
Performance piece expressed from the combination of dance styles (e.g., pop, jazz,
modern, ballet, etc.) or composed dance movements choreographed to incite an
intended response from the viewers.

The movements may be mediums that draw attention to the piece alone, or may be
mediums to bring out meanings that may be interpreted by an audience. In the
tradition of this genre, movements connect to felt meanings in the mind, such that
the composition are expressions of a mental or spiritual content.

Since the participants are not trained dancers, our exercise captures the spirit of
contemporary dancing than drawing ourselves to the execution of precision of
technique. Improvisation shall be fully encouraged.

Parameters.
1. Each college form their own group of not less than 5 dancers (sex configuration
immaterial)
2. Each piece will be performed within 4 to 5 minutes
3. Music may be canned or composed
4. Piece may combine choreographed and improvised movements
5. Being amateurs, the participants will be judged less on their technical
proficiency in execution but rather will focus on the manner the composition
expresses meaning and theme, its representations and the process the
collaboration has taken

POP DANCE

Guidelines

1. Each college or school should have a minimum of ten (10) members and a maximum of fifteen
(15) members. Two (2) points shall be deducted per judge score for every member in excess or
in deficiency of this provision.
2. The music piece should be a minimum of three (3) minutes and a maximum of five (5) minutes.
Editing and remixing will be subject to the discretion of the participating college/school. The
music piece shall include – seconds of the song Kiss Kiss by Chris Brown.
3. Live accompaniment is not allowed during the performance.
4. Costumes must not be obscene.
5. The total time covering the entrance, performance and exit should not exceed six (6) minutes.
6. Any violation of the above mentioned guidelines shall be subject to a two (2) point deduction
from each judge per violation.
7. The decision of the Board of Judges, once signed by the board of tabulators, is final and
irrevocable.

WANNA BE (MUSIC VIDEO)
Guidelines
1. There shall be no limit as to how many performers will participate as long as it will cater the
needs of the performance of each group.
2. Participants should perform one (1) Disney Song which they will choose on the moment of
registration. The song should NOT be performed live.
3. Each college/ school should submit a minus one copy of their chosen song which should not
exceed 5 minutes and must not be edited. The total time covering the entrance, performance,
and exit should not exceed to seven (7) minutes.
4. The first college/school to register and at the same time submit their Wanna Be music piece will
be acknowledged. First come, first serve basis will be applied to avoid duplication of music piece.
5. A lyric of the song that could be vulgar, scandalous, harassing, libelous, and could encourage
negative conduct is strictly PROHIBITED. A copy of the lyrics of the song choice should be
provided during the submission of CORs/Lists.
The song choice should not have the following terms:
 Fuck
 Bullshit
 Shit
 Motherfucker
 Asshole or the likes
Note: try to look for the “clean” version of the song choice or music piece
6. The performance should not be vulgar or obscene.
7. Live accompaniment is not allowed during the performance.
8. A list of each participating group’s props shall be submitted to the KASAMA. Also, the actual
props that will be used during their performance will be checked by the KASAMA one (1) day
before the Night of Dances and one (1) hour before the start of the event proper.
9. Any violation of the above mentioned guidelines shall be subject to a two (2) point deduction
from each judge per violation.
10. The decision of the Board of Judges, once signed by the board of tabulators, is final and
irrevocable.

CANVAS PAINTING
Guidelines

1. The event will be on October 24, 2017 from 9:00 AM to 4:00PM @ CASS Lounge.
2. There will be one team for each college/school with three (3) members.
3. The theme will be: “50 Years of Journey”.
4. Upon arrival, participants shall immediately report to the Event Coordinator for briefing and
instructions. They must present their Institute IDs and must fill up the attendance sheet
provided.
5. The participants shall provide their own painting materials but not limited to paint and paint
brushes. KASAMA will only provide the ________
6. Participants may only bring the following paint colors: black, white, red, yellow and blue.
Participants may mix colors once the contest commences.
7. For the entire duration of the event, only one college representative is allowed to communicate
with the participants. To ensure compliance, each college shall assign two student marshals to a
competing college to be determined by the event coordinator. The student marshals shall
prevent the violation of this rule. The student marshals are not allowed to cause unreasonable
disturbances to the college/school they are assigned to.
8. Participants are responsible for the security of their materials. The event organizers will not be
held liable for any lost, damaged or stolen materials.
9. Participants are not allowed to mark their work with anything that may identify their college/
school except for their given entry number.
10. Participants are not allowed to bring any form of gadgets during the event, but they are allowed
to bring a copy or a scratch of their design/drawing, provided that it is on a piece of paper and
not on any gadgets.
11. The canvas shall be finished after the allotted time. Failure to do so shall incur the following
point deductions per judge:

5 to 10 minutes 1 point
10.1 to 15 minutes 2 points
15.1 to 20 minutes 3 points
20.1 to 25 minutes 4 points
25.1 to 30 minutes 5 points
