This specification s t i p u l a t e s the m i n i m u m requirements for protective relays. control devices mid

measuring and indicating instruments acceptable for USC 111 the company and it shal I he the

For the purpose of t h i s specification the d e fi n i t i o n s and a b b r e v i a t i o n s given in t h e reference standards

shall a p p l y together w i t h the following:

4. REQUIREMENTS

4.1. SERVICE CONDITIONS

The e q u i pm e n t s h a l l be t ro p i c a l i ze d , designed and constructed for c o n t i n u o u s i n d o o r operation

in areas w i t h the following atmospheric c o n d i t i o n s : -

(i) Altitude: Fro111 sea level up In 2200111 above mean sea level.

(ii) Humidity: High a, the Coast, up 10 95% a n d lower i n l a n d . up 10 50%.

(iii) Temperatures: Average a m b i e n t t e m p e ra t u r e o f + 35"C w i t h a m i n i m u m or - I °C and a

m a x i m u m of +40'C.

(iv) Maximum Indoor temperature i n s i d e t h e Relay Panels is +50 • C.

(v) Pollution: Design p o l l u t i o n level to be taken as "Heavy" ( P o l l u t i o n l e v e l Ill) for i n l a n d

and "Very Heavy" ( P o l l u t i o n level IV) for coastal a p p l i c a t i o n s in accordance w i t h IEC

60815.

4.2. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

4.2. I . /\ I I Relays shall be designed for operations in the severe t ro p i c climate c o n d i ti o n s and fully

c o m p l y w i t h c l i m a t i c a g i n g tests as per I EC 6 0 9 3 2 - C l a s s 2.

4.2.2. In choosing materials and their finishes, due regard sh,111 be given to the humid t ro p i c a l

c o n d i t i o n s u n d e r which the R e l a y w i l l work.

4.2.3. Iron and Steel are g e n e ra l l y lo be painted or galvanized as a p p ro p r ia t e . I nd o o r p ar t s m ay

possible. Steel screws s h a l l be zinc, cadmium or c h ro m i u m plated or where plating is not

possible owing to tolerance l i m i t at i o n s ; it shall be o lc o rro s i o n r e s i s t i n g steel.

4.3.2. Instruments

4.3.2.1. /\ I I measuring instruments, including the energy meters. shall be 01· f l us h - m o u n t e d, buck­

connected. dust-proof' and heavy-duty switchboard type and 111 accordance with th

r e q u i r e m e n t or !EC 6 0 0 5 1 .

4.3.2.2. For analogue type instruments. scale plates shall be of' a permanent white circular or

r e c t a n g u l a r f i n i s h with black pointer and m a r k i n g s . The scale range s h a l l be provided as given

in t h e dcrai led speci fications.

4.3.2.3. /\ I I measuring i n s t r u m e n t s o fa n a l o g type s h a l l be a p p ro x i m a t e l y 96 X 96 111111 enclosures and

s h a l l be provided with clearly readable long scale. a p p ro x i m a t e l y 240 degrees. The m a x i m u m

error s h a l l not be more than one and a h a l f ( I .5%) percent of full-scale range.

4.3.3. P r o t e c t i v e Relays

4.3.3.1. A l l Measurement relays s h a l l be flush mounted and of N u m e r i c Design, with event recording.

4.3.3.2. Besides the communication port, the relays shall have a h u m a n - m a c h i n e interface facility

4.3.3.5. Where contacts of the protective relays are not sufficient for C i r c u i t Breaker T r i p p i n g and

4.4.18.1. Software must be provided tor p ro g ra m m i n g and downloading claw for a l l n u m e r i c a l relays

supplied and also for any numerical i n s t ru m e r u s SL1ch as transducers provided.

4.4.18.2. It shall be possible to install the Software to twenty different computers without any

a d d i t i o n al License Cost. Two (2) CDs s h a l l be s u p p l i e d for each different type o r Software.

be equipped with an RS232 communication port or other s ui t a b l e port to facilitate
