PPA 5: PD Professional Progress Assessments early in clerkships

Evaluating Your Progress toward Professional Practice 2018

Developing an Inner Operating System to Put Professional Awareness into Action
Your Assignment: Professional Progress Assessments
(same for students who have begun and not begun clerkships; If an item is not relevant, just indicate as
such.)
I. Complete Competency Domain Worksheet (see Attachments)—just brief notes
As was indicated in your PPA I assignment, the competency domains are used by medical school and
residency programs to assess you and assure that you are entrustable to perform the of a doctor work
(the 13 Entrustable Professional Activities, or EPAs). As noted previously, Each EPA is composed of
several competency domains.

II. Complete Progress on Previous Goals (See Attachments)

Reflect on your progress in completing your Learning Plan Goals from previous learning Plans—use
the chart in the Attachment (or paragraph format, if you prefer) How successful were you with
each goal—0% 25% 50% 75% 100%?
 Present specific evidence of your goal achievement
 Do you want to continue to work on this goal and if so, how (description, time line)?
 Do you want to build upon this goal with a new goal?

III.Write Summative Reflections: 1page maximum for each of the 4 paragraphs.

Highlight the accomplishments of which you are particularly proud and target areas for further
improvement. Select from your Competency Domain Work Sheet and Personal Learning Plan
Progress Report (see Attachment) for these 4 paragraphs:
1. Your medical science progress
2. Your clinical progress
3. Your personal development—thoughts on yourself as an individual in the process of
becoming a professional: your resilience, coping, your adjustment, your confidence,
your motivation (from the people and/or spiritual connections that give your life
meaning). As part of this reflection, address 2 of the 8 Wellness Spheres:
Environmental, Emotional, Financial, Intellectual, Occupational, Physical, Social, or
Spiritual.(See Wellness Spheres, Figure 2, and associated definitions).
4. Teamwork &Professionalism
In constructing your reflections be sure to offer the 3 parts of a proficient reflection: a clear
description, an analysis of what you describe and new insights. Also, please use the Competency
Domains Work Sheet in the Attachments to help organize your thinking for this Summative
Reflection. As was indicated in your PPA I assignment, the competency domains are used by medical
school and residency programs to assess you and assure that you are entrustable to perform the of a
doctor work (the 13 Entrustable Professional Activities, or EPAs). As noted previously, Each EPA is
composed of several competency domains.
