A SURVEY AMONG STEM 16–BLOCK 16 STUDENTS OF MSU TCTO SENIOR

HIGH DEPARTMENT ON THE USAGE OF 3G AND 4G

CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

New mobile generations have appeared about every ten years since the first move

from 1981 analog (1G) to digital (2G) transmission in 1992. This was followed, in 2001,

by 3G multi-media support, spread spectrum transmission and, at least, 200 kbit/s peak

bit rate, in 2011/2012 to be followed by "real" 4G, which refers to all-Internet

Protocol (IP) packet-switched networks giving mobile ultra-broadband (gigabit speed)

access

4G, or fourth generation mobile internet technology, is the current standard for

mobile network connectivity, offering speeds ten times faster than the predecessor.

The firm’s “State of the LTE report” for November 2017 ranked the country into

74th out of 77 countries in terms of 4G speed.

General Objective

This study is focused on the usage of 4G and 3G mobile network of STEM 16-

BLOCK 16 students of MSU TCTO Senior High School.

Specific Objective

This study is to identify the number of users of 3G and 4G of STEM 16-BLOCK

16 students of MSU TCTO Senior High School.

Significance of the Study

To Students who want to study the same research, this study was to give

information of STEM 16-BLOCK 16 students of MSU TCTO Senior High School on

their usage of 3G and 4G mobile network.

Limitation of the Study

This study is limited only to the usage of STEM 16-BLOCK 16 students of MSU

TCTO Senior High School Academic Year 2018-2019, about 3G and 4G mobile network.
CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

First generation wireless cellular network was introduced in 1980s, till then

different advancement has been made in this direction and different generations were

introduced like 2G, 3G, and 4G networks after 1G. (Sagarkumar Patel*, Vatsal Shah,

Maharshi Kansara)

As the need arise, first generation was developed around 1980s by Nippon

Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) in Tokyo. So, Japan was the first country to

commercialize 1G. 1G is based on analog signals based on AMPS (Advance

Mobile Phone Service). FDMA (Frequency Division Multiple Access) scheme of

multiplexing was used in 1G. (Sagarkumar Patel*, Vatsal Shah, Maharshi Kansara)

Due to disadvantages like very less capacity and analog technology, 2G was

introduced in 1990s based on GSM in Finland. 2G had many advantages like radio

signals in 2G are digital, offered better security compared to 1G, made better and

efficient use of spectrum available and also had an added facility of text services. Its

improved version also included GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) which allowed

internet access. (Sagarkumar Patel*, Vatsal Shah, Maharshi Kansara)

With more number of users using mobile phones to access internet, a faster

and robust internet connectivity was needed and 3G was introduced. The concept of
CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) and WCDMA (Wideband Code division

multiple access) was introduced in 3G. NTT DoCoMo first commercially launched

in Japan in early 2000s.[1] 3G also had an advantage that it was backward

compatible with present 2G systems. (Sagarkumar Patel*, Vatsal Shah, Maharshi

Kansara)

4G communication system was first introduced in Finland in 2010. The

concept of OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency division multiplexing) is used in 4G. The

internet speed in 4G can reach upto 100 Mbps due to which applications that requires

very high speed like online gaming, high definition video streaming and interactive TV

can be enjoyed. (Sagarkumar Patel*, Vatsal Shah, Maharshi Kansara)

2G is based on GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication)

technology. 2G system used combination of TDMA (Time Division Multiple

Access) and FDMA (Frequency Division Multiple Access). Due to this more users

were able to connect at a time in a given frequency band. (Sagarkumar Patel et al. Int J S

Res CSE & IT. 2018 Mar-Apr;3(3) : 1962-1964)

Volume 3, Issue 3 | March-April-2018 | http:// ijsrcseit.com

3G system uses CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) and WCDMA

(Wide Band Code Division Multiple Access). CDMA is a technique in which a

unique code is assigned to each user using the channel at that time. After assigning

a unique code, completely available bandwidth is utilized efficiently in it. Due to this
very large number of users can use the channel at the same time compared to TDMA

and FDMA. (Qualcomm)

LTE (Long Term Evolution) is a 4G mobile communication standard based

on GSM/EDGE and UMTS/HSPA technologies. LTE uses Multi carrier CDMA or

OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing). In OFDM, high data rate

modulating stream is divided and then placed onto many slowly modulated narrowband

closed-spaced subcarriers. (E. Ezhilarasan and M. Dinakaran)

METHODOLOGY

Research Design

This research study uses descriptive survey.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researcher wrote a letter to the principal of MSU TCTO Senior High

Department asking permission to conduct a survey among the identified respondents by

distributing the questionnaire sheets among them to answer in their respective classroom

Research locale

The location of the study is at the MSU TCTO Senior High Department. It is

located at Sanga-Sanga, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.

Research Respondents

The respondents of this study are the STEM 16-BLOCK 16 students of MSU

TCTO Senior High School.

Sampling Procedure

The Sampling will be taken from the whole class size of STEM 16-BLOCK of

MSU TCTO Senior high School.

Research Instrument
The researcher prepared a check-list questionnaire. Then he conducted at once by

administering the questionnaire among the STEM 16-BLOCK 16 students of MSU

Senior High School in their respective classroom.

Statistical Tool

Since the study is a quantitative research survey, the simple percentile distribution

will be used in tabulating the data gathered.

Where P= N x 100
R
P = percentage
N = number of respondents
R = total number of respondents

Treatment of Data

The gathered data were analyzed and interpreted in the light of the objectives of

the study. The data are presented in a narrative form following the arrangement of

questions.
