Research Design

For this study, the researchers had used the mixed method

type of research. Mixed method research is a methodology for

conducting research that involves collecting, analyzing and

integrating quantitative (ex. surveys) and qualitative (ex.

interviews) research. (“Mixed Method Research”, 2016) Quantitative

data includes closed-ended information such as that found on

attitude, behavior, or performance instruments. (Creswell, 2011)

The analysis consists of statistically analyzing the data

collected on the survey questionnaires. In contrast, qualitative

data consists of open-ended information that the researchers

gather through interviews with respondents. The general, open-

ended question asked during these interviews allow the respondents

to supply answers in their own words. (Creswell, 2011) The analysis

of the qualitative data involves the answers given by the students

in the provided open-ended question in relation to financial

literacy.

The obtained results from the statistical interpretation will

be construed and supported with the gathered information from the

interview with the chosen senior highschool students of Father

Saturnino Urios University- BP. Pueblos.

Research Environment, Population, and Sample

This research was conducted inside the premises of Father

Satunino Urios University- BP. Pueblos with the Senior Highschool

students (Grade 11 and Grade 12) for S.Y. 2018-2019. These students

in particular where chosen as the main subject of this particular

research because it is during this levels that it is vital for a

student to be financially literate in order to adjust to the

environment once they reach college or when they eventually get a

job.

The researchers gathered respondents through Purposive

Sampling of the Senior Highchool students (Grade 11 and 12)of

Father Saturnino Urios University. The respondents – Senior

Highschool students (Grade 11 and 12)- were given questionnaires

for them to answer. Whilst, the respondents - Rev. Fr. Randy

Odchigue (Father Saturnino Urios University VP Academics) and

Ma’am Donna F. Espuerta, MAELT (FSUU BP. Pueblos Principal) - were

interviewed and were asked particular questions relating to the

financial literacy of senior highchool students and in order to

specifically and deeply evaluate their viewpoint. The students

were approached and given the survey questionnaires in the premises

of the university while the interviewees were personally

interrogated.
The total number of respondents was 52 (fifty- two) - 50

(fifty) students for the survey and the additional 2 (two)

interviewees namely: Rev. Fr. Randy Odchigue (Father Saturnino

Urios University VP Academics) and Ma’am Donna F. Espuerta, MAELT

(FSUU BP. Pueblos Principal). The researchers chose this

particular number so that the responses will not be a

representation of an exaggeration. Also, 35 was the standard number

of Father Saturnino Urios University for educational and

statistical purposes.

Sampling Technique
Purposive Sampling was used as a sampling technique. A group

of students was selected (a sample) for study from the current

Senior Highschool [grade 11 and 12] (a population) of Father

Saturnino Urios University- BP. Pueblos. Each individual was

chosen entirely by chance and each member of the population had an

equal chance of being included in the sample.

collected and was calculated accordingly. The information was

gathered from the respondents of the survey and interviews

conducted by the researchers. The data gathered was presented in

accordance with the honest answers of the respondents, being aware

of the purpose of the study that was discussed by the researchers.

On the other hand, the said study can be an instrument for

further development as means of reference of its legitimate

conclusions which can be very beneficial to the subject of the

reverie.

Additionally, this research produced sufficient results

without any form of biases from any personal interest. Every datum

gathered was receptive to the criticism and in accordance to the

respondent’s response with regards to the purpose of the study.

Moreover, the opinion gathered from the study was protected

from any unauthorized disclosures and any personal opinions

regarding the subject matter by the respondents shall be kept

private and shall not jeopardize the privacy of the respondents.
