Task description
You are required to contribute to class discussion and debate in such a way as to demonstrate
that you have critically considered the relevant course material and tutorial activity.

Specific learning outcomes addressed

1. Critically examine the concept of policy and how it is used in both analysis and practice in
health-related fields;
2. Identify the significant participants and locations – professional, governmental and
international – in policy development and the structures and practices through which it is
generated;
3. Describe and analyse the way that different types of knowledge are mobilised in the
development of policy;
4. Analyse the development and implementation of policy within a particular field of practice,
paying attention to the strategic context, debates about the specific policy issue, and a
critical understanding of the place of policy in the structuring of practice.

Assessment criteria
The on-line tutorial activities will focus on helping you consolidate important material from
the Modules. You will be placed in a tutorial group which will work collaboratively to answer
the activities. One of the course convenors will moderate the discussion as necessary.
The word limit per post is 200 words. This is to make the reading of each post easier. You should
not aim to fully answer the activity in a single post, but focus on answering one aspect of it, to
leave opportunity for other students to contribute and discuss. The practice of being first in and
answering everything is not acceptable, as this does not demonstrate the ability to be a team
player. Rather, we want to see critical engagement with an aspect of the activity, and with each
other’s responses. You should feel free to raise questions and bring in other relevant material for
discussion. Your posts do not require referencing; and you should feel free to write as you would
speak in class. Do not waste time carefully composing your work – as soon as you have worked
through the course material you are ready to get on line and share your thoughts as you would if
you were in the classroom. This task is about engagement and discussion, NOT writing style. So
as a group, aim to develop an engaging discussion which will assist you with your learning, and
draw from each other’s experiences.
While you do not have to make a response to every tutorial activity, we do expect at a
minimum (pass only) that students will post at least once to each of the three tutorials. A valid
post (one that will be counted) is informative, expands ideas, raises important questions,
provides critical discussion, or demonstrates engagement with other students. Posts can only be
made while the forum is open (see closing dates above). You will be marked against the rubric
below.
