Chapter II

VIII. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter discusses the research design, the research locale, the method of respondent
selection, the research instruments, the kind of treatment each respondent received, and the
mathematical and statistical tools used in the study.

VIII-A SAMPLING

Research Design

The researcher made use of the descriptive type of research to attain the objectives of the
study. Information was collected by survey method, through questionnaires.

Research Locale

Data were collected at selected Barangays of Leyte, namely: Brgy. 78 Marasbaras,

Tacloban City; Brgy. Dap-dap, Alang-Alang, Leyte; and Brgy. Capudlosan MacArthur, Leyte.

Selection of Respondents

A letter was first given to the Brgy. Captain for permission on the research conducted. For
the selection of respondents, data regarding the identities of active and cured TB patients of each
barangay was obtained from the Barangay Health Worker. Only those that registered for availing
treatment under the DOH were included in the sample. The survey was conducted on a house-
to-house basis so as not to disturbed them from their daily activities.

Selection of Barangays

Selection of barangays was based on convenience which is within the Region VIII Eastern
Visayas and on a nearby locality where the researchers are familiar of; therefore, the element of
familiarity was used as an advantage.

Research Instrument

A self-structured questionnaire based on the statement of the problem was used by the
researcher. The questionnaire was translated into Waray-Waray dialect and was answered by
those respondents who could read; for respondents who cannot find it difficult to read, the
questions were read them and their answers were written by the researchers.

Mathematical and Statistical Tools

To summarize and analyze the data gathered, mathematical and statistical tools used in
the study are Frequency, Distribution and Percentage.

VIII.-B DATA COLLECTION

General Procedures

The researchers formulated a research problem consulted it with the research adviser, and
sought approval of the Dean of College. After the formulation of the problem, the background,
rationale, and statement of the problem were drafted. A letter for permission to conduct the study
was secured and approved by each of the barangay captains of the selected barangays. The
surveys were then conducted among the respondents using an instrument formulated by the
researcher themselves.

23
While the data gathering among the respondents was being done, Chapter I and II were
drafted. Subsequently, data gathered were tabulated, analyzed and interpreted. Lastly, Chapter
III was drafted before the finalization of the entire output for submission.

Statistical Treatment

After all of the data were collected, the researchers made use of tables and figures to
exhibit the results. The frequency, distribution, and percentage formula were utilized in order to
analyze and interpret the outcomes of the given data. The formula was used:

P= (f/N) x 100

Where,

P = percentage
f = frequency
N = total number of respondents
