6. Construction

6.1. Housing
The signalling device housing is made of steel sheet and is protected against corrosion by coating with powder
varnish. Signalling device is adapted for mounting with two M10 screws to an appropriate hanger. The housing
walls are equipped with holes with appropriate cable glands. In cable glands there are placed rubber rollers
serving as caps, which should be removed while inserting cables. The housing provides two ground terminals,
one inside and one outside the housing. Access to the interior of the housing is provided by a removable cover.
The cover is installed by Allen head screws. Inside the housing there is a bracket, on which the terminal strips
X1 and X2 are placed. Depending on the signalling device version, one of the terminals - X1 or X2 may be
unused. In the ASO-3A version there are holes drilled in the side walls of the housing, which enable sound
signals spreading to the outside. In the ASO-3S version the front cover of the housing is equipped with plastic
lens enabling emission of light signals. The lens is protected with special metal sheath against possible damage.
The ASO-3 housing combines functions of the ASO-3A and ASO-3S housings. The "TEST" button is mounted

6.2. Electronics module

The electronic system of the signalling device is made with printed circuit technique. It uses discrete
semiconductor and passive components as well as integrated and microprocessor circuits. These components are
mounted by means of surface and through-hole techniques. The acoustic module was created by placing an
assemble of electronics in a plastic sleeve. In ASO-3A two acoustic modules are applied by fastening them to the
side walls of the housing. To the left side of the housing there is the ASO-3Amodule affixed, while to the right
side - the ASO-3A/1 module. In ASO-3S version the executive element is a set of LEDs. The LEDs are
controlled by signal from the electronic control unit. The electronic control unit provides constant LED
brightness and has one control input and one output of electronic key. The control electronic system and the LED
circuit boards are mechanically connected to form light module, placed inside the lens.

7. Characteristics of the signalling device

The signalling device has the following functionality:
1. emission of light signal (ASO-3S),
2. emission of warning and informing acoustic signals (ASO-3A),
3. choice of the emitted acoustic signal type (ASO-3A),
4. simultaneous emission of acoustic and light signals (ASO-3),
5. possibility to check the signalling device proper operation at any time by pressing the
optional "TEST" button (ASO-3A, ASO-3S, ASO-3).

8. Description of the signalling device operation

The signalling device can be powered with 10-15,75 V DC voltage derived from the intrinsically safe power
source. Below there are descriptions of operation for each version separately.

8.1. Description of the ASO-3A signalling device operation

The ASO-3A is controlled by feeding positive power pole „Uz+” on its „St” input in the terminal strip X1. The
control can be implemented remotely, for instance by means of a separate button. Type of generated signal
depends on configuration of the „S1”, „S2” i „S3” inputs in the terminal strip X1. To select the right type of
signal, configure the inputs according to the following table, where: Uzas means that the „Uz+” power supply was
fed on the input, 0 means that there is no signal given on the input (unset input). The input is recognized as set
input, if the supplied voltage is not lower than 10 V DC, and as unset input, if the voltage is not larger than 4 V
DC.

It is possible to set the „S1-S3” and „St” inputs in untypical manner, i.e. setting the “St” input in a fixed manner
and controlling the “S1-S3” inputs. In case of using the ASO-3A signalling device with the optional “TEST”
button, pressing this button at any time enables to check the signalling device operation.

8.2. Description of the ASO-3S signalling device operation

The ASO-3S has one controlling “St” input in the terminal strip X2. The way of controlling the input is identical
as in the ASO-3A version. After setup of the “St” input, the signalling device ASO-3S will begin emitting the
optical signal. To ensure constant brightness of the set of LEDs, regardless of supply voltage value, the source of
current was used. Proper sequence of flashes emitted by the set of five LEDs is provided by the control system.
The ASO-3S has one “Wy” output, that can serve for connecting with the “St” control input of another ASO-3S
signalling device. In this way a cascade connection of several ASO-3S signalling device is possible. In case of
using the ASO-3S signalling device with the optional “TEST” button, pressing this button enables to check the
signalling device operation at any time.

8.3. Description of the ASO-3 signalling device operation

The ASO-3 combines functions of both described above versions - ASO-3A and ASO-3S. Simultaneous
emission of both acoustic and light signal is possible. Control of ASO-3 operation is done in the same manner as
described above with the difference that the terminals are connected as follows: „Uz-” X1:1 with „Uz-” X2:1,
„Uz+” X1:2 with „Uz+” X2:2.

8.4. Instructions for safe dismantling

Dismantling of the device should be performed by authorized persons. The works should be conducted in
accordance with the valid regulation with particular attention to:
